I'm in! Micheal Schumacher Watch Out!

I've been officially accepted into my first motorsport event in the Dolomite.

I'm car No. 74 in the Wessex Sprint, Colerne NE of Bath next bank holiday Monday.

Sorry - no spectators permitted as its MOD owned.

I'm not expecting great things though - I'm up against 5 RS2000's, some of which are running very hairy cams and throttle bodies, a Toyota MR2 turbo, a supercharged 1.7 Puma, a couple of MGB's and a 2.3 volvo 360 (eh?).

Hopefully I wont be last! it will be embarrassing if the Volvo Beats me!
Good luck in your first event!
Did you see a programme called something like So you want to drive a grand prix car" the other day? Supposedly there were only 3.000 entrants for the position!

I thought I'd let someone else go for that one.

I have a similar physique to some of the wannabes on that programme!

Besides Frank Williams offered me a seat but i had to turn it down 'sorry Frank - I've just bought a couple more go faster sprint bits on ebay and i can't let them go to waste... '

...and then i woke up to reality<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Sprinting in a Sprint

#5 Post by SMIFTER » Tue May 06, 2003 12:09 am

Well I’ve taken part today and I’ve got the racing bug!

Despite every other car in my class running supersoft Yokohama A0032R tyres and me having my Kwik fit budget Yugoslavian remoulds I didn’t disgrace myself by being last.

I was 10th fastest out of 14 competitors, which I’m reasonably pleased about. More encouraging is the fact that after every run I was getting consistently better lap times after tweaking the damper settings and learning the best braking and turn in points. The bloody Volvo managed to be 5th fastest though! I think he was a bit of a demon driver to get that time in such a piece of poo. Even my Brother in Laws 2.1 escort couldnt beat him (He got 7th). Despite a few escorts missing the class was dominated by the RS2000 escorts (no surprises there), which I was nowhere near. Saying that I didn’t see any other road car out there bar Caterhams and TVR’s, which were as quick as the RS2000's.

The Sprint got a few admiring glances and comments, the best comment was from the MSA Scrutineer who said ‘much underrated car, if it had a Ford badge you wouldn’t see many escorts here’. There was also a bloke who claimed to have a full set of Broadspeed engine building instructions but I couldn’t find him in the paddock again. Bugger!

All in all and most importantly it was bloody good fun and I’m looking forward to the next Sprint on 25th May at Llandow Circuit, South Wales. I think Spectators are allowed at this one if anyone fancies a day out inhaling rubber vapour!

Of course Pics and videos will be added to my website in due course.
