At last some good news (Abigail Wicthalls)

#1 Post by SprintV8 » Fri Nov 11, 2005 10:48 pm

Abigail Witchalls, the young mother who was stabbed in the neck while walking with her toddler son in a country lane, has given birth to a baby boy, a family spokeswoman said.

Mrs Witchalls was discharged from hospital last week after undergoing more than six months of treatment to injuries which left her partially paralysed.

The 26-year-old was in the early stages of pregnancy when she was attacked on April 20 while pushing her son Joseph in a buggy along a lane near her home in Little Bookham, Surrey.

The assault left her with a damaged spine and she spent five months in the spinal cord injury centre at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in north London.

A spokesman for St George's Hospital in Tooting in south London said: "Abigail and Benoit Witchalls are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at 2.30pm weighing 5lbs and 6oz - a little brother for Joseph.

"The delivery went very well and mother and baby are doing fine."

A resident of Little Bookham, who asked not to be named, said: "Everybody is happy for poor Abigail, it's a wonderful thing, we thought it was going to be closer to Christmas.

"The local people see it as an answer to prayer, they are rejoicing and giving thanks."

Villagers are expected to offer prayers of thanksgiving for the birth at Abigail's local church, Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Little Bookham.
That is good news, the truama that woman went through is uncomprehendable to most of us and to carry a baby through to birth in such circumstances is to be frank, a bloody miracle.

When someone shows such fortitude it should make the rest of us realise just how fortunate we are...and give thanks for it.
