I said that once, it`s not something you want to admit in public, trust me. As Alun said at the time make sure nobody sees you.

Looking at it as a purely spares based initiative!<br>
Gearbox for Rover 2.0 16V conversion (possibly next year!)<br>
But hey, you never know what might happen....... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Al,<br>
<br>
Do you know of a bellhousing that will fit the LT77 to the rover T-series? (I guess this is the one you mean) I have a friend who's thinking about the same sort of thing for his MGB but is having trouble finding one.

I think myself and Nick are popping up to see you this weekend. I'll double check with him.<br>

Cool, thanks Scot.<br>
I am led to believe, through Retrocar's magazine the 5 speed bolts straight on. Although Jonner's will probably throw a spanner in my works! (Not an insult mate, you know more than I)<br>
I think the Rover SD1/Sherpa/TR7 were the same box?<br>
If not back to the drawing board and no TR7!!!!

The 5 speed for the TR7 is indeed the LT77, so with the right bellhousing it should mate up. SD1 clubs would be a good place to look, I should think a lot of bottom end models get stripped to keep the 3500s alive, and the O-series bellhousing would normally get thrown out I imagine. O series was a very modified OHC B-series, effectively a brand new engine, M series was a 16 valve version, T series added a turbo. I think.

Is right! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>
<br>
At least, he is going by what I managed to find out in the days I thought I had enough money to do this sort of thing. The T/M is an updated O, the O is not an updated B (was meant to be, but by the end of the r&d I think it shares nothing with the B at all), but it might have the same drillings to stick a box on it, don't know.<br>
<br>
I was going to get a 16v NA Rover lump and either a Sherpa or SD1 5 speed box. It should all go together, although which engine plate and flywheel to use was a bit confused when i discussed it with a local breaker (who's also rather knowledgeable and does wierd mechanical things).<br>
<br>
People have put the diesel O into Bs, so I can't see any reason why petrol versions wouldn't go in easily enough. One thing I discovered is the injected 8v O has a bit more torque and a bit less hp than the 16v M/T, and is probably a more common engine (being used in many Montegos). If I had the money and facilities now I don't know which I'd go for, I like the 16v, but the extra low down grunt of the 8 might be better for normal driving.

Just a note...

The turbo version of the O series is an excellent unit and will make 250HP with a budget of 500 quid and some shed work - excellent article in one of my magazines about it. Torquey, not too laggy and robust.<br>
<br>
Just thought i'd add that, as it's something I've thought about. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :hat --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

waste of time

#12 Post by algtj » Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:11 pm

I might have been able to salvage the bumpers, boot and bonnet. Engine dead after 100,000 so gearbox might be ok.<br>
But at £200 non negotiable..........<br>
It will become part of the scenery. 10 years in a barn with no walls and roof would have been a better description! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

If its the later double bulge bonnet its worth about a ton on its own!<br>
<br>
LT77 'box is highly sought after...ton fifty plus...<br>
<br>
The alloys sell well too.<br>
<br>
Jackshaft?<br>
<br>
Water pump?<br>
<br>
Carbs?<br>
<br>
I reckon you'd see your money back
