Dent repairs - West Midlands

#1 Post by dollybird72 » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:04 pm

Hi, hope this finds you all well.

Can anyone recommend a good dent repair specialist in the West Midlands?

I have a huge dent in my driver's side door on my Nissan Micra (a gatepost jumped out and attacked me) that I'd like to be fixed before I sell it. Don't want to pay silly money for it though and certainly not if the cost of repairs outweigh the money I'd get for it left in it's current state.

On the latter, what is your experience of this? Do people tend to knock the price down even lower if a car has a big dent in it? I know it would put me off but then I'm a girlie and I like things to be spic and span<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Cheers <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Sorry I can’t recommend anyone in the west midlands, there’s a chap I use down here in South Wales, will repair most dent’s for £30 per panel, so two dents on the same panel still only £30.
Most large main dealers employ the services of a dent removal company, ring a local dealer and ask for the details of person they use, the used car sales manager would be the best person to talk to.
Expect to pay around £50 per panel incl VAT from companies such as Dentmaster.
Just how large is the dent and has it stretched/creased the metal and broke the broke the paint?
If so you will need to get a chap to rub the surface down, fill with wodge to reprofile before repainting.
It just so happens Suzi I know somebody down your way who has the skills.
Give Alun a call!!!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Good luck
Maurice & t'other Al!

Dent is quite large but actually not as bad as it was. I managed to take the inside panel off and got my size 3s in the gap to push the dent out a little on the outer panel. Bought one of those crap dent remover kits from Halfords for £19.99 but it broke almost immediately.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Paintwork not too scratched but dent goes into the strip that runs down the side of the car. I will try and post a picture later so you can all have a laugh.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Prices you have quoted sound very good actually - I was expecting to pay £hundreds.

As for Alun, can't afford his prices!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">
I can help here....

Gary will do it far more reasonably than you would think. Can I have a picture?

I need to deliver something to Aluns for storage and I can take your micra down to Dunkeswell for you, then drive something from Gary's home to mine.

All you'd need is to go to Dunekswell to get it and pay him.

His work is very good.

Alun has my number...
Hiya

Thanks again for advice everyone.

I have uploaded the pictures, look away if you are of a nervous disposition!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

The second picture is the wrong way around but Microsoft Editor won't let me rotate or flip it so either stand on your head or use your imagination! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Jon, my brother works for a company that repair cars involved in accidents - he gives them quotes. He reckoned it would cost me about £700!

Do you still think Gary can give me a reasonable quote? If so, would love to hear what it is.

Many thanks

Hmm, exceeded my daily upload apparently. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:"> Have deleted some pics off my site and hopefully that will do the trick.

If not, will need to re-save the pictures, edit them (make them smaller) and then re-upload them.

Modern technology eh?

Oh Susie.......<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">
Could be as expensive as quoted, cant see too clearly but it looks like you have quarter panel damage.
Job to big for a dent doctor.

Send....

#11 Post by Jon Tilson » Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:36 am

them to me at my email address and I'll send them down to Gary.

Problem you have is its metallic and that means you have to blend it in to adjacent panels....

Looks like 2 days work here then.

Under 500 though.
Hi

Alun gave me your message.

I am afraid that if the repairs are going to cost £hundreds then I'll leave it. Will sell jallopy as it is.

Thank you for offer though Jon; hope I won't ever need to look for a dent repair specialist ever again! Those gateposts can be pretty vicious though!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Susie, it maybe worth doing a search on the internet thing for a new door.
If not, use the car as a everyday banger. and get yourself a second car policy for the Dolly.
You know where I am for advice. But I am sure Big Al can help.
Hi Susie,

Couldn't see the photos but if the damage is limited to the door then it could well be cheaper to source a used door and have it fitted. Easy to do. Try Partsfinder or similar. How old and what colour is the Micra?
