Need to change the timing belt on my mates car, no Haines book of lies!
Any body know which way the crankshaft pulley nut unscrew's?
Thinking left hand thread......
Needs to come off to remove timing belt cover.

Why can't they fit chains to all cars!!!!?

Thanks in advance
looking at the autodata disc and you dont have to remove the pulley centre bolt it has four bolts holding the pulley to the crankshaft drive pulley
hope this is some help

Thanks George but the pulley needed to come off to remove the whole timing belt cover.
Removed the four bolts and with the bonnet removed, three large blokes on a six foot bar we persuaded the centre bolt to undo!
Normal thread confused us as the direction of rotation of the engine dictated (by sound engineering practice!) a left hand thread.

I am afraid I abandoned my mate to it as I was busy Dolomiting today.
From what I could see before I left was the tension needed releasing then the belt should have "simply" slid off!!!!
If you haven't taken the belt off already,

Cut the original belt inhalf (width way's)

Slide the new belt onto the pully's etc
You may need to slighty loosen the tensioner to get the belt on.
But keep some tension on to keep the old belt tight.

Once the new belt is on
Cut the old belt completely off
Then slide the new belt fully on.
Tension back up Done.

I also have a Autodata CD I can scan a copy of the page and send to you if that help's.
That is a bloody good tip for cam belts. I have to do mine on the XE which I'll adopt your technique for.

Nice one Phil. You've obviously done a few in your time!
Top idea.....!

Looking at the state of the cambelt when I left the other day only half of it was left anyway!!!!
A lucky man I think! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
