Mart, you've done well to escape the 'wood! Most people only leave in a wooden box.

My god! I'm in an A area! The insurers obviously haven't done their research.

When I moved house in BS37 from a 70's sprawling concrete terraced starter home area amongst the chavs and scum to a more upmarket part of town where its all front approach detached houses occupied by more affluent families and retired couples my car insurance increased by 5%. What the hell was that all about?
Re: Insurance Postcoes
My area is rated A, but where my Dad lives in Northampton which is a really nice part of the town, he is rated D! Crazy.
Risky Business
The whole of this lame mangey one horse town is A. The fact I've had a car vanadalised daily to beyond repair and another car stolen, not to mention the general dodgy goings on doesn't seem to make any difference.

Still, though I like living here as much as I'd like to be force fed pig manure, at least it means the insurance is nearly affordable, not all bad I guess <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: Risky Business
I'm in London N9 which is a 'refer' area. Touch wood I've never had any hassle re: cars. Think this site needs a kick up the a**e to make it a bit more realistic in it's rating scale.

Re: bs3
I don't know the area or the cops there but we always used to gravitate to the scummiest areas because (funnily enough) that's where the richest pickings were. The local community liked to believe that the Police had 'no go' areas as it made them think that we were scared of them. The truth is there are no 'no go' areas, at least in London. As long as we weren't too far from a Dunkin Donuts or Maccy D's......
it's all a con
The rating system doesn't actually have much to do with whether some scally will nick your car. If you think you live in a nice area but has a high code, like me (D!) and I live in a village. Have a look at your own or neighbour's cars, are they all Jags, BMW's, etc etc? If the answer is yes then that is why your area is high. Driver's of these cars tend to claim far more than his mates who live on the estates. Their claim settlement figures, repair bills and loss of earnings through injury are much higher which means that I who drive a cheap Ford have to pay more. Cost me £40 more when I moved a year ago but strangely my wife got a refund of £12!

Insurance is 1) All about risk and 2) Mostly a con
