mark , i changed jobs a couple of months back and now work for a coach co. near southampton, the owner is a bus spotter and has some oldies like a 1957 bristol (fairline i think) and i drive the modern ones, a 1978 bristol vr and 1981 leyland olymipian (both semi autos)
i know the owner of 'alf' through work and shes letting me do one of the tours i gave alfs owner the pics of owens RM and the magicbus web link, i think she was impressed.
Do you need a psv licence in the states for the magicbus?
Not really sure of the rules as far as driving the bus here. As far as I know it is legal to drive it on a normal licence as long as there are no fare paying passengers on board. It is being checked on!

It was a bit confusing dealing with the overhang at the front, what with being about 3 feet infront of the steering axle, I'll get used to it, I hope. Me and the missus are going to be doing a few events for Noel so he can have a holiday back in Blighty hence the driving lesson. His other vehicles are a Routemaster and a Lotus Europa, so with my Dolly aswell we are keeping the Brit flag flying here
I did indeed drive a bus to work today, it was a mitsubishi pajero
mark, the good thing about the overhang is that you can put the front of the bus over the pavment giving you more room on sharper corners just not to fast or it will ground out as the bus leans. just remember the length and height and you will be fine. i will mail you some pics of our buses for you to pass on to owen.
depends what buses that have local to you a can be from 3.5 litre 4 pots up to 8 litre twin turbo'd 6 pot. more likly you have dennis dart buses (4litre) they are made to be slow and steady but carry a heavy load and not use too much fuel.
next time you get on one the 'chassis plate' will be on the penel under the windscreen near the doors, this will have engine size ect stamped on it.

anorak back in loft now.
My truck (DAF LF 45-150) is a measly 3.9litre 4 pot with Holset turbo and seems to do ok. She will sit at 70 all day long and recently set a new record for the Birmingham - Bury Noel Edmonds dash, fully laden.

Great,, until you go up against a Bomb Disposal version of the same truck with the 220 HP 5.9 six-pot, at which point it seems very slow again.

It doesn't mattter how fast your bus is when you have to stop every quarter mile. I'd rather hack my nuts off with a rusty penknife than drive a bloody bus.
the bus co. probably have put restrictors on them to stop the drivers racing when i was busing in winchester for stagecoach the darts were not restricted and could do 60 mph with a full load which the customers didn't seem to like.
strange folk, moan when the bus is late then moan when you floor it to make up time
