For that money it has to be a Nissan Micra K11. Blinding little car, agreed it`s got no kind of character but it will never let you down, alternativley why not a Dolly 1300.

Do the words F**k off with Micra's and Nova's ring any bells. I have to drive to work on nights in said selected beastie and during the summer months I would probably be shot! Dolomite any day. Why bother with a modern car? You just need to persuade her of the economic sense of having 2 similar motors. Only one set of spares needed etc. Classic insurance as Jonners says.
Quite right! But if your Mrs refuses to drive a classic (like mine does!)...

What about a Pug 106/205 or Renault Clio? Maybe even a 306TD?

Not the best built cars ever but mechanically simple and really good fun to drive.

If you want something more solid what about a vw polo or seat ibiza, less fun though and the 1.4's are painfully slow.

For reliability buy a honda civic or toyota corrolla.

Does it have to be a titchy car? You'll get a nice Audi 80 TDi for a grand, it wont depreciate much and it'll go on and on and on.............

Scary XE powered 1974 Dolomite Sprint Trackday Experiment. Maybe someday soon

2002 Octavia VRS - 20 valves, leather, a turbo and 146mph - Czech it out!!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p206.ezboard.com/bthetriumphdolo ... SMIFTER at: 19/7/06 5:29 pm

With the build quality and reliability of them, have you considered a VW Polo?

Maybe even one of the diseasel models...
1.3 / 1.4 (automatic?) Corolla, no question about it whatsoever. No rust, no breakdowns, no hassle, just get in and go. Sorted. Lovely jubbly.
As much as I would love a 1500 SE, Mrs W is like Mrs S point blank refusal of classic cars!
Corolla it is then, I think! What Mrs W thinks I don't know. If she takes any longer deciding it'll be a bus pass!
Thanks for the suggestions, always some amusement to be had choosing what we think our women should drive! For the women out there, I was'nt being sexist before my 'in box' fills up!

No doubt Sophie will look at this list whilst I am at work.

does a Golf 1.4 count? You should be able to get one of these early Mk3 ones for the price. Well solid and good chasssis but obviously milk float performance.
Early Rover 200?
