dolly exhausts

#1 Post by Bruce » Wed Jun 28, 2006 10:42 pm

Is there somewhere I can pick up an exhaust cheaper than £175 for a 1300 Dolly?
My rear section is super religious and could do with replacement but not at this cost, it is almost what i paid for the car

That's yer problem...

the scottish road salt regime takes its toll of old Triumphs far quicker in the land of the Hagis, so the major outlets like Kwik Fit dont tend to keep dolly bits on hand like they do down here in London, where I could still get the rear section last time I asked for about 75 quid. Best bet is to get one cheap on ebay and pay the postage.
This car came from Lincolnshire last saturday and had been stored 5 years. The exhaust looks brand new but water must have been lying in the rear box and rotted it to B****ery. I reckon it will prbably have to be a complete system as it only seems to be two parts and the ones I can find are three.
On another tack I haven't got a hold of a parts manual so far siince the weekend and wonder if anybody can give me a part number for the short link on the carb that operates the throttle on a single carb 1300?
If it's the small plastic balljoint on the link that's split (as they frequently do), these are available through TDC Spares to club members at very reasonable prices.
Exhaust rear sections in mild steel should be in the region of £50 (maybe less) including postage from Rimmers, Fitchetts and others. Full stainless systems are quite reasonably priced through TDC Spares too.
the zorst is 3 part ,the down pipe from manifold goes under and bents at almost right angle , middle section(with silencer) upto just before the axle, rear section up over the axle to rear includies silencer.
ask at your local indepentdent garage if they can sugest a exhaust supplier.
Have sourced the balljoints but am curious about costs of stainless exhausts through TDC. Have sent away for info about club and still trying to decide whether to join (I am in both the local car club and MG club already)
if there is a deal going on exhausts I may join and kill two birds with one stone
I bought the car on impulse from ebay at the weekend as a runaround and it seems to be solid and completely original right down to the AM radio and dealer plates plus everything works which on an unrestored 28 year old car is somewhat amazing!

Dolomite 1300 full stainless steel system is £240 including delivery through TDC Spares. Check out other suppliers on our parts suppliers page - here.

I have found that an mild steel centre section is unobtainable from anywhere, unless somebody knows different.
It looks like a SS exhaust is all that is available and that would cost 3/4 of what the car cost, ebay beckons rather than pay this<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=" >D">
A ss exhaust would probably cost more than the car is worth to me, pity as the car is in great nick apart from that.

I would be amazed if it was true that centre sections in mild steel were unavailable. Which specialists have you tried so far? I had a front section from Fitchetts a while ago and a tailpipe section from Rimmers more recently, both were very modestly priced. I believe that Canleys have a selection of mild steel sections too - and if you are on a VERY tight budget, try secondhand from someone like Quillers. Or maybe get an exhaust bandage if it'll do the job until you decide what the long term future of the car is...
