A contender to the Silly Escort prices throne

#1 Post by SMIFTER » Tue Feb 07, 2006 4:50 pm

Ok these are good fun cars, and can be very quick, but honestly, its still an 80's hatchback with no MOT!

All is forgiven Escort buyers!
I felt....

#2 Post by Jon Tilson » Tue Feb 07, 2006 6:16 pm

the urge to comment on the stupidity of this with a bit of unashamed car racism....
I hope you all get to see it but I somehow doubt it will get past the scrutineers...

Just in case the sentiments were...

"I'm going to do some advertising...
How is this piece of jap tat worth 3k with scab and no ticket when you can get a full on Dolly Sprint for far less...Madness....500 quid would be too much if you ask me..."

Done my civic (NOT honda) duty for the day....
Its all for the same reasons as rwd escorts - they are big in the motorsport scene because of the way they handle and stop, with discs all round, lsd, 5 linked rear axle and a screaming engine.

And they were possibly one of the last mainstream small RWD cars for sale in the UK.

An Article in this months retro cars made me look out of interest as it makes the case that these are the spritual successor to rwd escorts (yeah right).

But this just pisses me off how an unroadworthy pile of pap like this can fetch this - even the seller seems to be in a state of disbelief!
the beemer E30?

Surely a 325i sport would flatten this corolla.

and they can be had for sub 2k as well...
Even E36's are coming down now....

Opel mantas/cav coupes are cheap too...
The BMW is not too hot for motorsport use - its fairly large capacity and if you do the decent thing and cram in a 2.8 it might even be in the same class as imprezas, cossies and evo's which would absolutely crucify it!

One thing I forgot to mention which also explains the corollas value in motorsport circles - its only 1600cc and not turbo'd, which puts it in the same class (certainly in hillclimbing & sprinting) as things like fiesta xr2's, MG metro turbos, pug 106 gti's and crossflow escorts which it can usually outperform all of.

RS2000's, Dolly Sprints, 205 1.9gti's, Bimmer 325's etc are in the class above.

So if you want to ensure you have a competitive car its not a bad bet.

When i very briefly did sprinting a rwd corolla dominated its class and beat most of the cars in the class i was in too including the Sprint.

Still a bloody ugly tinny overpriced piece of junk though<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Just saw the response to your question Jonners.

To be honest I thought you were out of order and deserved a harsh response (calling you a twat was a little too harsh). Its not the sellers fault the cars worth so much! He obviously got lucky.

Still funny though<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

I need some cash so maybe I'll go for a walk around by all the old peoples bungalows tommorrow looking for Corollas I can buy for scrap money - I smell profit.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

Out of order....

#15 Post by Jon Tilson » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:45 am

Yes I suppose gratuitously slagging off someone else's wheels is a bit out of order....he's probably an okay guy really but just a bit challenged in the automotive taste department.

There never is any reason in car prices...Why is a split screen moggy thou convertible worth the same as a Stag?
