Although I have to say, V8 WTF and V8 LOL (what the ...and laugh out loud) did tickle my fancy at 500 quid a pop from the DVLA.

(or may have been WTF V8, can't remember now <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> )

The last three letters on my Nissan Patrol are FFS which seems quite appropriate.
The clincher for me buying the green V8 was that its first three letters are AFJ - my initials being AF <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> (Oh yeah, the V8 lump did have some influence too...)

Hi, I'm going to look at the car Friday afternoon <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Does anyone think it looks any good? I'm new to the site tonight and have never owned a classic car in my life - well, I tend to run mid-nineties bangers if that counts!!!

I've spoken to the guy, and he says it needs a passenger sill, welding at the end of the exhaust, a new cog for 1st gear, and a tune-up. It should then pass an MOT. Its a 1500 with Overdrive and has history since new, which seems quite good. And it looks like a Sprint!

Also wondering if anyone knows where to insure it at a good price? I'm 26, and will do approx 12k a year in it.

Finally, anyone know if there's a good garage in Gloucestershire or surrounding areas, to do the work?

Cheers Guys!
Hi Graham, welcome and congrats on your good taste <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

Right, rot spots to check, in increasing difficulty to fix:
Boot floor (Remove carpet card and spare wheel, check under tank from underneath)
Doors, bottoms of (loads of good ones changing hands or can be fixed)
Cills.
Jacking points at front and rear of including the surface within the wheelarch.
Lower front corners of wings inc where they join the front panel.
Front floorpans.
Bulkhead (remove footwell carpets).
Around the rear wheel arch and bottom of rear wings.
Roof above rear screen.
Windscreen pillars.
Front panel.
Chassis rails either side of gearbox.
Chassis rails under the bonnet (remove battery if poss, check subframe mounts from below)
Bottom of gutter under bonnet ahead of screen.

The engines on these are so cheap as to be practically a disposable item so I wouldn't worry about the smoke. The OD gearbox is a very desirable item but the total bill for changing the 1st gear will be a lot higher than the cost of the cog. Parts availability for these is 100%. There are no panels being reproduced but NOS ones come up. The club is producing patch panels that cover almost all the grot spots.

My gut feeling is that it sounds honestly advertised. That said thoroughly inspect the doumentation, 140k is possible on these engines. Jon can point you in the direction of a guy not a million miles from you who can do dolly bodywork in his sleep.

If you are prepared to put some money into this car beyond it's purchase price you can easily have a car that will go on and on and on for years, they're just unburstable. An excellent choice for your first classic. It will probably go for over £150 because the spitfire boys will bid it that far just for the box.

Insurance will be peanuts, talk to Footman James and Heritage to start you off.
