Slightly O/T - Idea!

Right here it is: I often watch Dollys for sale on E-bay to see what they fetch and who they go to. To try and increase membership to the TDC and also perhaps the number of spare parts on offer, I wondered what you all thought of the idea of me contacting winning bidders with something like this: -<br>

I don't know if the details about the benefits of membership are correct or the website address but you get the idea.<br>

I also thought of e-mailing sellers on the likes of Autotrader to ask them to forward details of the TDC to whoever buys their Dolly.<br>

Now, this was just an idea, I haven't discussed it with anyone so please don't anyone throw their toys out of the pram if you think it is a crap idea - just tell me it's rubbish!<br>

Even better if you personalise it to show you are a woman; takes away a bit of the geekiness of a car club and hides the fact that all but four of us are blokes!<br>

This is something that has been mentioned in the past, but like many good ideas, we just don't have the time to devote to implementing it. The Ebay issue is something that we'd like to explore, both in terms of using the service for recruitement/advertising and also for bidding on items which would benefit the club and its membership. It's another of those things on our "to do" list.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> If a volunter came forward and offered to set up an account in the club name, then use it for the aforementioned purposes, we'd be very interested to hear from them...<br>

would this be spamming and againest ebays policies as you are selling/ offering a service . because you are contacting a user that you have had no business with you may get booted of the bay if someone takes offence and reports you.<br>

I agree with Justyn, in principle, but if 'we' set set up a new id, then no one is going to lose their positive feedback or anything. I reckon its safe enough and as dollybird72 says - they would appreciate it in the long run. Its an offer of instant new friends....

Spamming ebay might be a bad idea. But there is another way I just thought of. Write a decent buyer's guide for buying a dolomite and make sure it mentions the club and / or forum. <br>
<br>
And of course, while any message sent to a member is unsolicited, there isn't any charge for using this forum, nor is there any pressure to join from anyone. But it is a great place to get information about dolomites. Might cause problems at some point though.

Any monitoring of spam is likely to be an automatic check. I doubt with the level of messages we are likely to be sending that anything will be picked up at all. I quite often contact buyers and sellers with whom I have no privity and I haven't been banned yet.<br>

We'd just have to be careful about how quickly we dealt with the back catalogue of 100 past buyers I have in my watch list at the moment...but then most of them are David

I have tried to contact other folk on ebay, and it asks me to enter a code which pops up in a coloured back ground.<br>
