Steering rack gaitors

#1 Post by dollyboy » Sat Sep 16, 2006 6:47 pm

looking for more tips here folks, cant get o/s gaitor to breathe, tempted to pin-hole the thing but thats the last resort...

it kind of goes all stretched n yukky on left lock, or sort of puffs up like a deformed balloon on right lock...

tried squidging air out, resulting in yukky, and tried it with a bit of air resulting in balloon.

had grease nipple off to act as a breather, sort of worked, then tried the bolt thing at the bottom of the column, same effect as grease nipple...

grrrrr... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:">
Use cable ties instead of jubilee clips.

Yup, and only put your weight behind tightening the inner ones. Leave the outers looseish so they move but not flap about.
ok, cool. i thought the P/O's cable tie approach was a mickey mouse bodge, but if the outside gaitor ends are meant to slide a bit then so be it. just seems a rough solution to me, but i am after all a novice/gaitor replacing virgin...
