1300 FWD drive shaft couplings

#1 Post by 1300dolly » Thu Aug 31, 2006 2:06 pm

for the fwd 1300s.
one of mine split as it was going into the mot... arrrghhh , so a paniced called to steve W reveals that they are akin to rocking horse poo but our friends at rimmers do have them for £185+ vat each (gulp) so another few calls later turns up some QH units for less than £50 a pair. im assurred that they are metalastic (the good type)and will be on the car tomorrow. if any fwd owners are intrested i will keep you updated on the quality as QH only have 10 left and no plans to get more in. my supplier said he will buy the stock if the quality is ok.
I got QH ones from e-bay, they come up quite often. I believe the same items are used on GT6`s.

I've had luck a couple of times going into motor factors and asking for bits off other cars. I was after a water pump for a 1275 midget. The guy at the counter sucked his teeth and said "don't make them any more mate". I then asked for a water pump for an early 1.3 metro. They had one of those in stock and I left with it that afternoon.

Fitted in january and used all through the winter in all weather, they appear to be perfectly ok, no signs of cracking and the it also improved the steering a little.. they have done a little under 1000 miles. I did also enquire at my local factors about them and at the time they were about £30 each if I remember. I paid £30 for the pair on e-bay and another £30 for the outer CV joints which I changed at the same time.
Shame the car isn`t on the road at the moment.....
