Carb Mounts
Carb Mounts
I'm going to replace the carb mounts on my sprint. As I'm a fairly crap mechanic (but still won't send it to the garage) is there anything I'm likely to break. Be aware that if something can be broken my method of mechanics will break it!
I'd like to pass on my congratualtions to the dolomite club for expanding their range of sprint parts....conratulations Malcolm.

Re: Carb Mounts
Should be fairly straight forward (he says having done it a fair few times). Don't loosen the link shafts between the carbs or you'll have to re-tune them, you should be able get both carbs off at the same time.
Where are you getting the carb mounts from ? I got a set from Robbers about 3 years ago & they lasted less than 6 months before they started cracking. Maybe they use different rubber nowadays. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Re: Carb Mounts
I got the mounts from Quillers, who in my 2 years of sprint ownership have always supplied parts cheaper than the rest. I've only used Rimmers twice (I have bought a lot of parts) and they're great, but they do charge a fair bit more than all the others.
My sprint is used every day so I'm loathe to pay the Rimmer price for parts. But each to their own.
What are the best carb mounts? I've heard you can buy them in Stainless Steel?

Carb mounts
Robsport, the TR7 specialists, had NOS carb mounts for about £45 p+p inc when I was looking for some last year. However, I managed to find a pair at Stoneleigh for £15 !!!

Re: Carb mounts
If you are a club member ask Bruce Jones. He had some for my 1850 at a very reasonable price. Shame I had already bought some from robsport. If they last less than 6 months I should be able to get my money back shouldn't I?
Re: Carb mounts
I should think so Katy. There's nothing worse than your rubbers splitting. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Alloy carb mounts.
Check out the Quiller website (under uprated/perfomance parts)
They have alloy carb mounts for the Sprint. £96 pair <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> , but then if you are going through the hassle of replacing your rubbers, do you want to do it again in 6 months?
Carb Mounts
When I recently replaced mine (Sprint) with some from Quillers, I found that 2 of the carb studs were too long to get the nuts on. So I had to shorten them by around 1/2 inch. There not hardened steel, so its relatively easy.

Re: Carb Mounts
There were infact early and late carb mounts originally to suit waxstat and non waxstat carb arrangements. I forget which was which, but I think its the waxstats that need the two shorter studs as they interfere with the casting.

Wonder why they used hardened studs as the originals are quite easy to 'adapt'
