performance filters
what filters are out there that go in the standard dolomite air box?

i want to run a induction cold feed to the airbox with a performance panel filter

are there any others than the stag k&n ? pipercross ? etc?

would this idea be better than pancake filters which to my mind dont look a good idea ( think of all that hot air there sucking in? )

also how restrictive is the standard filter?

thanks guys <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Re: Also
what? the pankcake filters

lewis

induction noise is a nice noise <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

so the K&n is the only way to go then

all the others are bolt on?

looks like im after a good price on a k&n then

Filters
K&N sell replacement panel filters for the sprint airbox:
<a href="http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv ...

K&N also sell replacement 'separate' filters, but negatory on those <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

ITG also sell bolt on filters:
<a href="http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv ...

NFS seem to stock some nice stuff for dolos
<a href="http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv ...

Make sure you have the cold air intake trunking in place, as mentioned previously many sprints are missing it and the bracket.

The standard filter is OK, but the aftermarket ones can be considerably better.

I believe you may have to change the needles in the carbs or re-tune them as filters can have quite an impact on your mixture afaik.

Best o luck' <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">
Also
Green something or other also make replacement filters, I think those are bolt-ons though too. Correct me if wrong plz <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
do the pancake filters really take in that much nasty air or is there a performance gain to be had with the pancake filters

how much induction roar do you get with the panel k&n filter?

and why dont we get nice induction roar with the standard filter?

I don't know........
about what kind of noise is achieved with the K&N panel filter, many people have them.

You won't get induction roars with HS6's anyway, they don't suck enough in to make that much noise <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> for a big roar I'd expect you'd need a dirty gert pair of webers or dellorto's <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil"> ......

Filters in engine bay.....hm, hot air, reduced fuel air charge, less performance....hmm. That's the general rule I'd follow. Hence the popularity for 'cold air' kits.

Get the panelfilter from NFS ^ links above.
60 quid, goes in ur box, sorted <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: rofl
The pancake filters do suck in more air hence why you have to change the carb needles to richer ones. When they built the cars in the first place they put the airbox on to help get rid of the induction roar (not everyone likes it) so essentially it acts as a silencer for the incoming air. I have K&N`s on my 1850 and it`s only seems really vocal at full throttle otherwise it`s not that much different my golf GTi on the other hand has a K&N 57i induction kit combined with a sports exhaust sounds crazy. I say bring it on, it`s great at the traffic light grand prix sitting next to the blue washer jet gang and blowing them away with 2 su`s roaring away and all this in a 27 year old car, who say`s old cars are slow!!!!

Pah, that's it
K&N's going on my 1850 now <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

Got some quiller filters under my desk, they look pants though with tiny 'elements' if you can call rolled foam that.....any advice.

I assume the needles rimmer list for K&N' apps are the ones you change to

so if i want induction roar...i need to put on pancake filters?

shame i cant use the panel filter .......but no noise...no likey

For induction noise pancakes are the way to go.

They look nice too.

For SU carb needle sizes check out this site.
Re: Pah, that's it
Not really I guess it`s a little bit more responsive but nothing to really speak of, just makes a bit more noise.

i guess the performance advantage would be better if i got the k&n panel filter then.....getting lots of nice cold air
Air filters?
What are they? My Weber trumpets were open to the glorious hot air under the bonnet. Fantastic induction noise, enough power gain to be noticeable on the road and never noticed any problems with crap being sucked in and blocking things up.

Having said that, I'm one of the people who took delivery of the SprintParts cold airbox which I'm in the process of setting up. I'll probably only use some crude filtration material like fish tank filter around the mouth of the box just to try and stop small animals making their way into the carbs.
