1850 Carbs

I've own a 1972 1850, and the carburrettors are on the way out. Does anyone have any suggestions for buying new carbs? I've been advised to either try and convert it to a single webber (although the bloke advising this wasn't sure it was actually possible), or maybe try to get hold of later tr7 SU carbs. Has anyone done this before? are there any complications? Wheres the best place to go to buy carburrettors?<br>
