Dwelling on it [timing]

#1 Post by sebking » Sun Jan 02, 2005 9:30 am

Been tuning the sprint, and a few questions.

The dwell angle is 46-56 deg in the manual. Setting the gap to 0.012 in gives a dwell in the region of 36 deg. Smaller gap obviously means bigger number so I've reduced it to 0.012 giving 44 deg - do I make it even smaller.

I read that a too large gap will damage other ignition components - perhaps this is the reason for the condenser failures?

Having set mixture to 4% CO down from 6% I'm looking at running with the above gap at 6-8 BTDC on the strobe (vac disconnected) otherwise I get serious pinking. Seems to drive ok on test, but need a few miles to double check.

Still have a slight misfire but think that is down to the "new" cap from fitchetts - will call them next week.

Any comments on the above figures.

Thanks and Happy New Year
Seb
