Rear Q'light Removal
Rear Q'light Removal
VLK's old doors now stripped to facilitate glass etc into the replacement doors once she comes back from the spray shop.

Doors fully stripped except for the rear quarterlights (glass & gasket) which appear to be stuck fast. Don't want to sacrifice the gaskets so any ideas to get them free?

Re: Rear Q'light Removal
When I did mine I loosened the rubber seals as best I could with a blunt instrument. Then it was a case of gripping the q/light with both hands, door jam in my chest/stomach, pull, curse more pulling & more cursing wiggling at the same time (the glass not me).

Hmm...I've tried similar, but was pushing wearing sticky gloves.

I'll go out tonight and try pulling!

another way
I beleive the official way is to take the rear window runner channel out, which involves removing the drop glass. if the other way works, do it. Not sure about getting it back in!

Sorted!

Instead of the intricate clamp devised by triumphlux's Dad I used both my palms, one either side of the glass at the top 'thin bit' whilst the door was standing on its hinges. Constant pressure downwards for a minute or so on each resulted in them rotating slowly out.

result: three sundym quarter lights and good condition rubbers saved

window
i think if you try to remove the q/light without moving the rear window chanel you run the risc of having the glass break it's only a rivet and iirc one bolt at the bottom to move the chanel you dont have to remove the side window

Re: window
As the quarterlight is fully glazed in there is no way it could be removed without first removing the stainless window channel unless it was taken out by the 'shatter' method!

As it was the doors I stripped were already down to a bare shell, skin and quarterlight and it still took much effort to slide the quarterlight out.

Re: window
I did it on my Brooklands Sprint whilst stripping it down for a respray. As you now know Alun, it's a pita. I also done it on the Ice Blue one in the pic below whilst stripping it to scrap it. I still have all the Sundym windows from that car.
Indeed, the main reason for the effort before weighing in the doors
