vinyl roof info.

#1 Post by algtj » Sat Sep 09, 2006 8:49 pm

Richie was asking some questions, so here is some info off another forum.

"I spent the best part of a day phoning all sorts of bearded-folk in the back of Practical Classics before finding someone who would make me one from scratch. Just my luck he happened to be in the next village!

Bruce Moore (Trimmer)
01673 857289

Bruce is based at Holton-cum-Beckering which is situated between Lincoln and Market Rasen (Lincs).

He sourced the vinyl from Woolies in Yorkshire and cut it to shape on the actual car before stitching it. Total cost including glue was about £120. He will also fit the roof if you want him to and carries out full re-trims on just about anything.

A couple of things I learned from him:

The correct type of vinyl is called topping vinyl, this has the correct raised grain in it. The roof I had bought via Practical Classics 10 years ago was made out of inferior quality interior trimming vinyl (you live and learn).

Always use brushable glue that will withstand high temperatures. Apparently if you use the aerosol type the glue can melt in the sun (or bodyshop oven) and ruin the roof."

I know this may be a fair way to travel, but he sounds like he really knows what he is doing, which, in my book makes it worth while.

Also, Ben spent an age trying to find somewhere, so you don't have to! And a recommendation from Ben is a good enough case for me to use them. (He really does like his cars at their best!)

Hope this helps
