sprint clutch

#1 Post by denis thompson » Sun Jan 25, 2004 9:31 pm

Can anyone tell me if the sprint clutch assembly is only for sprints or are they also from other triumph models. I need to order a unit for overseas. Is the ones supplied by Rimmer okay or can you suggest another supplier
Thanks denis

Clutch

Hi Denis,

The Sprint clutch shares some if not all of its three components with the GT6. Avoid if you can Quinton Hazel aftermarket makes, I've had several bad experiences with these. Borg and Beck are about the best. Rimmers have (had?) both types in at the same price last time I had one off them - a while ago now, but if you are specific when ordering they will supply what you ask for.

There is a chap called Alwyn Lewis who does the autojumble circuits in the UK who specialises in NOS clutch kits amongst other things. Unfortunately I don't have any contact details for him, but no doubt he'll be at the Triumph show in two weeks time. If you're not in a hurry I could get his details then - his price for a full kit is about £40 from memory, which I imagine is much cheaper than Rimmers.....

As yet, I have no definite plans to fly into Vancouver this year (I have to go to Cannes on business early March instead<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":("> )else I'd offer to save you the postage. What's the Alberta snow like in late March (wasn't struck with Whistler last year!)
qh

I once replaced just the plate, I was skint at the time it was qh and only cost 12 quid. It worked ok but when it eventually failed it went from working fine to completly shagged in 300 yds when I replaced it the friction plate was down to the rivets but there had been no slipping or warning at all inconveinent to say the least.

Alun thanks for the info I will check out the GT6 maybe I can get one here. As to the another supplier if you do get the info perhaps pass on. I may try to get done soon, I had rebuilt the master and slave cyl as I was having problems once warmed up. hard to get in gear thought might just be seals leaking as they are quite old. Now cannot engage gears with motor running.
As to the snow in Alberta in March could be very good in the spring the weather has been very cold there at this time. Sorry you did not enjoy Whistler.
Thanks for the info again
All the best
Denis

I think 2000/2500 clutch innards are also the same...
I have a feeling the 2000/2500 clutch may be the same as the Stag(Large input shaft and larger clutch assy),
Which mean's is different to the Sprint(thinner input shaft).
I don't have a cross reference chart to double check.

Good old Rimmers....

.....their website tells us that the release bearing (GRB209) and driven plate (GCP140) are common to the Sprint, three rail 1850, 2 litre Vitesse and GT6. Unfortunately, the cover (GCC164) appears to be unique to the Sprint.

(couldn't check the 2000, 2500, 2.5 as the pages for that model on Rimmer's site are crap! Anyone have a parts manual for them?)
