O/d diagnosis....

#1 Post by alun n » Sun Apr 04, 2004 8:45 pm

.....the hard way!

When I bought KDU last year its o/d was inoperative. Not used it much, but a few purchases this weekend meant the old trailer came out, hooked up to KDU and off we go.

Never got around to looking into the o/d save for pulling the switch off and checking the wires.

Today, start getting a bit of a whine in the car, 20 miles from home and a trailer full of engine gearbox axle etc etc, so eased off and carried on gently. Whine gets worse, mainly in second (now like a banshee), but also there in first and third but not fouth.

That'll be the layshaft then.

That'll be no oil in the gearbox then.

Diagnosis complete: overdrive inoperative due to insufficient oil pressure.

Easy.

Now all I have to do is strip it down, get a new gearbox case and flush all the swarf out of the overdrive.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/sick.gif ALT=":x">
