1300 FWD release bearing, etc

#1 Post by cole007 » Mon May 31, 2004 9:53 pm

having clutch problems galore since buying our lovely 1300 FWD last year and needed some advice/help.
to cut a very long and expensive story short(ish) was told by local garage that needed new pressure plate, etc and would have to order parts myself.
rimmer bros sent the wrong bits and wouldn't take them back (another long story - anyone want/need a cover assembly and pressure plate as have one of each spare now) and had to get a new clutch kit. all fitted by local garage then told needed new master and slave cylinder - more expense and several weeks later car on road only for clutch to go again last week.
basically won't go into gear and whirrs when clutch pedal is depressed. looked at with friend who has worked on classic cars and they said the (six week old as new) release bearing had gone. it was red hot and was stuck in the gear shaft. so, what i need to know is:

it was clear that the (slave?) cylinder was not adjusted properly - the adjusting bolts were not tight enough and the pin was at ful extend and therefore not connecting properly with the throwout lever - is this likely to have caused wear or damage to the release bearing?

does anyone know where i can get hold of a slide hammer or appropriate bolt/steading to take the shaft out to install a new bearing ?

have been told will need some special oil when replacing the shaft - does anybody know what type of oil and where i can get some?

any hints/suggestions/tips/advice/moral support would be most gratefully appreciated at post@cole007.net

look forward to hearing from you, apologies for the long message and thanks for your time reading this,
