mis reading speedo

The speedo on my fwd misreads, at 22mph it reads 30. at 29 mph it reads 35/36 mph. at stand still it reads about 5 mph but blipping the throttle sometimes makes it drop!!. at faster speeds (approx 70/75) it waves between 85 and 100.
could this be a stretched cable?
apart from that its running great (carbs need adjusting slighty) and maybe a service as i havn't done anything to the engine yet.

all help and advice gratfully received

Justyn..Do you have the right final drive. Not sure this is a triumph problem but in the olden days (ahhh) it used to make a difference on minis. Also, dumb as it seems, do you have the right size wheels?

I guess I'd change the speedo as well, just run one inside the car (ie out of the dash) and see what readings you get ..
1980 Inca Sprint - high days and holidays (and any other excuse)
1978 Inca Sprint Engine back in - timing perfect (had to phone a friend !) exhaust next then wire up the overdrive and its on the bay
1978 Yellow 1850 auto sprint-notvery-alike - nasty shunt - undecided
1973 Mimosa Sprint - sold, awaiting collection end of september

.. you have something from your speedo! Mine isn't reading anything at all as the gearbox end seems chewed. New cable and still nothing!

Must sort that out as I'm sick of working off the revs only!
If the needle is fluctuating between 85 and 100mph, the head of the cable is knackered. Shouldn't dance around like that.
