Sprint starter motor
Re: Sprint starter motor
The procedure is fairly straight forward except removal and replacement of the top most of the three nuts/studs which hold the starter against the engine. To remove this first remove the heater blower (three bolts, three bullet connectors - make sure you identify which fits to which, and a large jubilee clip). This allows you to feel the top nut and guide your socket onto it. The nuts are 9/16" AF, and you need to use a 1/4" drive socket to access the top one - the wall thickness of a 1/2" drive one is to great to pass the engine block wall! I also use a 'wobble' bar extension to give a bit more flexibility and then step up to half inch drive with another extension so that the ratchet handle is actually operating between the radiator and front of engine. Left hand operates the ratchet, right index finger guides it into place. I undo this nut first and replace it last. To replace it I pack it into the socket with grease which stops it falling out until it catches on the thread but again rely on the finger to guide it in to place. The other two nuts are easy, as you can actually see them! There are two push on electrical spades and one ring connection held on with a brass nut. Disconnect the battery though as your spanner can easily arc across the connections and start the car - not good if its in gear and you are under it!
