oil filter

#1 Post by mahony » Tue Jun 27, 2006 7:15 pm

I have just changed the engine oil in my sprint and on changing the oil filter (standerd element) i found black gunk at the bottom of the filter housing so i took the spring and two seals and the metal disc(shaped like a flying saucer) off to get to clean the bottom of the housing, i have just looked at the autodata manual for dollys and suspect i may have put the bolt seals on first before the spring, will this do any harm or should i correct it at the next oil change, just did not want the hassle of changing over with a element full of oil so thought someone may know, not run the car that much so dont know if it has caused any leaks yet.

The Flying saucer maintains the pressure. If the seals are on the wrong way, behind the saucer, as far as I recall, the only problem is when it leaks! I must admit, after years playing with those things on bl and vauxhall products, I would like to know why they ever fitted them, while the smaller engines got a canister type!

I've been running a 'spin On' conversion on my Sprint for the last 5000 miles, very good <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START ;) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Alun, Unipart GFE173, in club stock if you need one. Alternatively, Ford CVH as in Escort is one appliocation for said filter
