New MOT Certificate
New MOT Certificate
Has any one (other than me) seen the new MOT certificate ?

I got my car back and was wading through all the bits of paper that you seem to get these days looking for the cars new MOT. It was only after the third look that I realised that the blue piece of A4 I had on top was infact the new style cerificate !

It looks as though it's been run off a home PC has no embossed print or watermarks (I would imagine that it would be very simple to forge).

The only good bit seems that you now have a peel off bit that becomes a sticker for your windscreen to remind you when the next one is due - and it looks a very 70's retro sticker too, perfect for our cars. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Re: New MOT Certificate
Had the Lotus MOT'd yesterday; old style certificate issued. Chap said 10 weeks before the new computerised ones come in and they just mean more work for him and a higher fee for us! He tells me the retail fee for MOT is now £42!!!

New Mot's
Some garages have, and some will shortly have the new type MOT's. The equipment the ministry have supplied to garages has been stored for 3 years due to technical problems. Its all very old stuff as it was an out of date lot bought then.

Re: New Mot's
Was suppose to go live April this year.
Think it was a April Fool joke as no one was ready.

New Cert's are a printed A4 Page with a Bar code.
Seen one at my refresher course.

Re: New Mot's
Yep, i had i shock last week with the £42 fee! Tho i got the failure sheet due to leaking shock and knackered UJ.

Hopefully should have the new MOt cert this wk, tho the garage dont seem impressed with this new system. Apparently they can only do so many in a day and only between official working hrs, ie they have to log on when starting a MOT. Means he cant start one at 4.45 as it'll run past 5pm, snds nuts to me & a lot slower than b4.

Hopefully no fee for re-test, tho im sure that will change soon!
MOT
I think free re-test are a thing of the past, as they have to take so long to re-do the test again. Not just the 5 minute check that was normal.
Its progress, but not as we know it
Re: MOT
They are removing scope for unscrupulous testers to issue certificates on a whim to mates/those that pay. A tester can only physically fit in so many tests in a day and now they can account for them!

Re: MoT
The MoT for my Acclaim was dated May the 4th. These new regulations should have been thought through a bit better although the basic idea is sound.

MOT test times
I help out at MOT station, we can do proper MOT's no problem in 30 mins flat and issue certificates, so this compuerisation will imapct alot. Infact who I work for has now decided to open for longer hours so he can do the same amount of MOT's in a day, but in practice will do less than before.
Re: MOT test times
Originally this:
Computerisation is set to over the way the MOT is conducted i.e. certificates will not be issued anymore. It will all be held in a database, the dates are not exactly set but we have it on confirmation that it will be set to take over on September 2004.

Then it's this

After successful completion of trials VOSA began rolling out MOT Computerisation on the 18 April 2005 to all testing stations in Great Britain. All garages will be recording MOT results on the new centralised database and issuing the new receipt style MOT test certificates by October 2005. Along with this new MOT certificate motorists will be given an information leaflet ' Your new MOT certificate and buying road tax online' which explains these changes and the benefits of the new system.

Shortly followed by some other excuse late on why it's not up and running fully yet?.
Re: MOT test times

Re: MOT test times
The database will be used also by the DVLA, VOSA, Insurance Companies and of course the splendid blues in blue (So I'm lead to believe).
So some of those little nNova's Corsa's and hot hatche's that havn't informed they insurance company's will be surprised when they premiums go UP.
