Whilst looking for an answer to Aluns 1500HL questions I stumbled across the production numbers for the Sprint. I think this answers those few who question weather the first 2000 were all Mimosa:

1973 - 5446
1974 - 4232
1975 - 3589
1976 - 4035
1977 - 2554
1978 - 1352
1979 - 1240
1980 - 493

TOTAL 22941

As you can see, by far the largest number were produced during the 6 months of availibility in 1973. No other full years production even came close!

Sprint production figures
Re: Sprint production figures
I'm a bit confused then. My August '76 Sprint has Chassis No. VA21275, but if they are sequentially numbered that would mean some more than that were made?

Re: Sprint production figures
Sprints were sequentially numbered, but at each 'series' change they started numbering again; you will therefore find gaps between VA10745 and VA15001, again between VA18278 and VA20001 and a final gap between VA26896 and VA30001. The final car in this series was VA31188 (which I own).

The remaining numerical discrepancy will tell you how many cars were registered with the TWTL prefix, but sequential numbers were used from this point forward for all models, therefore 'holes' abound this series throughout.

Re: Sprint production figures
So is there a way of telling by eye from a TWTL chassis number whether a car was originally a Sprint or 1850 etc?
Re: Sprint production figures
Yes, each model has different configurations of prefixing letters and numbers to identify the model, manual and auto etc.
