tweaked

#3 Post by george » Thu Sep 28, 2006 12:32 am

the 2.500 pi's had a different g/box to the standard one it's in the parts book but cant think if it had it's own supplement to the main parts book it was a police interceptor under the listing for parts
the rover p6b also had a gearbox fitted that wasn't a standard one
never had sprints in our force so did not get to repair any so have no knowledge if the box was anything but standard but as the other weren't then it's a guess that the sprint also wore a non standard g/box ?

I have a copy of the Police Spec parts list; nowt special I'm afraid apart from extra speedos, radio gear etc.

But then they didn't really need much extra in those days did they!

I wonder if there are any survivors.....and I wonder if there is a cheap(ish) white sprint or 1850 that could be made into a replica......

sure there was a sprint police car doing the shows a few years ago , had the extra clocks and that , but the jam sandwich stripes had been removed.

There is a former police sprint in a garage in Rugby, least ways there was a few years back when I bought a spare engine off the owner.

He said there was no way he'd sell it as one day he'd restore it.

He used to work at Canley and had spare new doors (amongst many other new things) for it that had come straight off the spray line!

Had a call from his son a while after asking me to make an offer for it; told him I'd need to have a good look at it first. Said he'd call me back when he'd talked to his Dad...but he never did.

Then there is Mr Bowles Pimento Police Sprint which we haven't seen for a good few years...does it survive?
As you say Alun, he used to attend a lot of shows with that car and I believe it was featured in the first ever edition of Triumph World magazine.

He went to a lot of time and trouble to get all the correct time period gear for that car too.

Hope they are both still out there somewhere.

The red Police Sprint is still out there....
Hidden in a garage on stands with the engine full ( yes to the rim ) while she sleeps away.
Still looks good, just a bit dusty.

And what i remember .. he said he won't be selling and it will be back one day...
