Re: Gearbox leaks
Hi thanks for the replys.
Was wondering if any of the stop leaks and gearbox treatments would effect the operation of the overdrive.
Has anyone used them in a overdrive.
Thanks
Mike.

Gearbox leaks
Hi
I have a few small oil weeps of oil on the gearbox of the sprint. I have seen that winns do a gearbox stop leak which swells the oil seal to stop small leaks. Has anyone used this in an overdrive gearbox and had any problems with the overdrive at all.
Thanks
Mike.

Re: Head gasket
Hi thanks for the advise.
Are you saying the block would need a skim as well or do you think it would clean up with some sort of acid or a cleaner. Because to skim the block would mean a full rebuild really.

Re: Head gasket
Hi all
Here are the photos of the head off.
The gasket was stuck to the head and when I removed the last stud the head and gasket slid across the block. The first two are the head and block just as they came off.
The rest are when I have wiped the oil and water off to clean the faces.

Re: Head gasket
Hi Tony
No the head wasn't skimmed at the time it was checked and the machine shop said it was Ok with no cracks.
I will measure the head and check it touches the block when the studs and bolts are fitted when I strip it down tomorrow. Does anyone know the size of a standard head.

Re: Head gasket
Hi all thanks for the advise and sorry for asking so many questions.
Here are some pics of the head and block faces before it was put together. I will take more photos if needed when I strip it down again as well as checking the timing cover and the head touches the block some time this week ...

Re: Head gasket
Hi Jeroen
It started to leak on the exhaust side first.
But after a short time was coming out on the inlet side.
I torqued the head down to 62lbft like mad mart said it seemed to slow it down but didn't stop.
Do you know what size the head can be skimmed down to before I would have to fit the ...

Re: Head gasket
If the head is skimmed what size would the head have to be to have to use the thicker gasket and what place would you measure it. Also the thicker gasket in rimmer bros is not payen. So is it OK to still fit dry.

Re: Head gasket
It's a 1977 sprint the head was checked it was flat and pressure tested but not skimmed. I used all the original studs, nuts and bolts. I used sealent on my vitesse head gasket and that is fine.

Re: Head gasket
Hi
I never put any sealent on the head gasket I used it dry.
The tightening sequence was all the stud first starting from the centre and working outward and then the bolts working outwards. When I filled it with water it started leaking from the gasket.

Re: Head gasket
Hi
I have just replaced the head gasket on the sprint with a payen one from rimmer bros. I didn't put any sealent on it as advised and put it all back together and torqued it all down to 55lb foot in three stages as the manual says. I filled it with water and noticed it was leaking from the head ...

Re: Spark plug tubes
Hi and thanks for all your replys.
Are the spark plug tubes from the club the new design with the O rings or are they the original design.
Also is the list of spares from the club all they do or are there other spares that are not listed.
Thanks again
Mike.

Re: Spark plug tubes
Thanks for the reply
I've seen them on ebay for £58.00 is this the best supplier and price.
Any thoughts on the head alignment tool as opposed to using the original studs.
