Peter Whitby
I went to Barrow in Furness today to collect an ebay engine purchase; it's a long time since I drove 420 miles in one day!
Anyway, the engine had belonged to the seller's uncle who passed away recently. The uncle's name was Peter Whitby, which seems to ring distant bells; just thought I'd post here ...

Re: Hermatite Red
I think I recall the manufacturer folding 20+ years ago as the industry changed to silicone sealants.

Re: Sprint exhaust stainless or mild steel
My experiences of fitting a sports exhaust (several times) is the frustration of getting it to fit in the first place and then having to adjust the fit several times thereafter to stop it hitting the floor pan/axle/prop shaft as the back of the car rises and falls with everyday driving. Probably ...

Probably the fan catching the alternator
I think it might have been. Felt it right through the car which was concerning. Will check the blades for any damage.

Re: Rubber or Polyurethane?
The other place I would avoid poly bushing is the axle end of the rear radius rods; I've seen too many polybushed cars compromising the threaded ends of the radius rods due to insufficient flexing causing the threaded ends to bend and in worst case scenarios shear the threaded end completely.
