Re: PCD change?

If the big princess calipers don't fit as they are, the solution might be the same as for the TR7, which they don't fit either - at least not properly. That was to dowel the mounting holes on the caliper body, and re-drill them a bit further in. The problem with mounting on the TR7 was that the pads ...

Re: Chassis number info

I'd been going off the data I had from Mike Barker, et al., on known cars, which had no other colours than yellow to after VA 2100 - and Inca not being the yellow used till later still. I'd been thinking of going to Gaydon to fiche in the BMIHT archives myself, but never had the chance.

I also ...

Re: Chassis number info

OK, VA 2252 is in the first batch of Sprints made after the initial "first 2000" (actually 2053 according to my most recent source) which were all Mimosa Yellow.

VA 1-VA 2053 were built in the period between January and June of 73 for the June launch. So I'll say, with some confidence that your ...

There are still some NOS ones of the early Sprint rear windscreen heater switches available for £23.99. PM me for details.

Re: Cheap Capillary Electric Fan Controllers and Two Speed Control

I use an ordinary 76> Dolomite HRW switch, I have quite a few. If you are using a relay for the fan, you can use the choke light power source and it'll run the choke light as a "fan on" warning (in case you can't hear the fan!)

Re: Sprint LSV

Well you'd need a dual circuit Dolomite to use it in the first place (why not FIT a dual master to your TR7?) but I have those by choice anyway. The perfect mounting point is that on the bulkhead previously occupied by the PDWA which wouldn't be usable in conjunction with this bias valve anyway ...

Re: Sprint LSV

A TR7 has different weight, different brakes in both make and size (both ends I think) and a load of other variables.

True, but the problem with the 8-valve TR7 is that the front brakes are deeply underwhelming - as I remember, the same as an HA Viva, but with servo. So it should still have the ...

Re: Cheap Capillary Electric Fan Controllers and Two Speed Control

I'm not using the choke as I'm going to be running EFI

Won't you have to do something to stop the (I assume) shortened cable just pulling right through? Also, I've had some frustrating issues with the choke light switch in the dolomite.

In which case, wouldn't there be a better, more ...

Re: Sprint LSV

I understand and appreciate that kind of practical engineering.

The possible problem - and I admit it's only possible - is that you can only ever be sure it's right in the conditions you've tested. So, for example, if you increase the grip from the tires by going wider and or to softer compound ...

Re: Sprint LSV

I've never tried to suggest that the LSV or some reasonable facsimile is not needed on a standard Sprint (or any Dolomite running a Sprint axle) It most certainly DOES and I have the brown trousers to prove it. The TJ kit bypasses the need, but then the car isn't standard any more.

I get what ...

Re: Cheap Capillary Electric Fan Controllers and Two Speed Control

Ive got a capillary fan controller to wire, plus i want a manual over ride, having a bit of trouble working it out

What makes it a bit harder is the manual over ride, i want to use the choke switch and light, i think i can wire the relay but switch/control it via the earth, but how do i wire the ...

Re: Sprint LSV

Is there any possibility to fit the TR7's automatic brake balance thingamajig? That is meant to limit the back brakes to only starting to bite after the front brake calipers have fully clenched. I think it needs dual circuit brakes, though.

How successfully that reduces the tendency for the back ...

Re: Sprint LSV

the rears locked instantly and this time the back end made moves to get in front

Well that appears to conclusively prove Steve's point that the std rear brakes on a Sprint are more than adequate, seriously so without the LSV.

And that gets even more the case when you upgrade the front brakes ...
