Hi - looking for more technical advice again - since I'm illitrate in these matters unfortunately.
This is regarding the gear change on my '72 1500 FWD (it's only covered 30k miles). A new clutch was fitted some 200 miles ago - following a clutch cover 'failure' after only some 100 miles - this dud 'reconditioned' part, was supplied by the way, by a very well known high profile Triumph part stockist. Anyway ...
Selecting 1st gear is never easy nor smooth, although eventually it does go in. Moving from 1st to 2nd is also slightly problematic and it takes a go or two to get it to go in.
2nd to 3rd is fine, and going from 3rd - 4th is also smooth.
Coming backwards - everything fine 'till trying to get from 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd back to 1st. Reverse gear selection is never a problem.
Any comments regarding what I need to do to sort this out please?

Re: 1500 FWD Gear change
By difficult, what do you mean? does it crunch when you slot the gear in? does it just not want to engage?
The fact that it will select reverse without a problem suggests that it isn't the clutch at fault (reverse is usually the hardest gear to select in my experience) so I would be looking at the gear change linkage. Someone with experience of this on the FWD will be along shortly, but it will probably be something like a loose bolt or a perished bush that's making everything a bit lopsided.

Re: 1500 FWD Gear change
When I say dificult, I mean the gear stick 'resists' moving in to the required gear. When you try and engage 1st or 2nd, you feel resistance in the gear lever - feels like you're hitting it against something 'rubber', and it bounces back at you. Does that make sense? But no, no crunching at all
Re: 1500 FWD Gear change
try bleeding the clutch system also there as an adjustment bracke ton the near side of the gearbox, which adjusts the engagment fork, there are two 1/2" bolts holding the sliding bracket, lossen these and pull the bracket towards the front of the car and retighten.
