Camshaft ID

#1 Post by gmsclassics »

I have aquired a camshaft that has been reground - quite significantly by the look of the base of the lobe. It did come from a car that was raced, but the head hadn't been overly worked and was running 2 inch SUs.

On the end of the camshaft some details have been hand engraved 'TAM', '239C' & '5355'. I have assumed that 239 is the duration but no idea about the rest.

Any ideas?

Hi Geoff,

I am sorry but I can't shed any light on the cam ID. I would be surprised if the duration is only 239, that is less than standard. Try measuring the 2 cross sections of the cam lobe, ie across the base circle of lobe and from tip of lobe to base of lobe. Take the base circle measurement from the tip to lobe and that should give you camshaft lift.
