Put the new parcel shelf in
I admire your optimism there Mart  Seriously, cracking progress and it does look great.

There's an orange 1502 beemer turned up near me*, it's a tidy car, very tidy in fact. Bit less chrome infested than this 1602. The colour is very similar but just doesn't have the grab-you-by-the-optic-nerves-and-shake-your-brain WOW factor of fresh 2k vermillion. Nor does my 1500 for that matter but thats old paint. In your place I'd be loving that feeling each time garage lights flicker into life.

* now I'm really itching to get the sprint back on the road - munch munch

Mart, what do you use to get the alloy parts so clean, even after running them through a parts washer my parts still look grimy.

looks fantastic by the way

I have shares in Autosol. Stick a polishing mop on the Black & Decker, clamp it in the vise eh voila. :D

I keep looking at your comment Julian, but I still haven't sussed what you mean!

I suppose this is an argument against Spax adjustable damping shocks. I haven't played with the settings yet but I keep looking at those pics & thinking, Christ that's high at the front. The front Spax look nearly new but they have been lying around for over 10 years (not on the car). It isn't on axle stands or anything.

Looking good Mart. For me, this week end, new shelf to go in, front seats, trim, then a major clean up and polish. Thinking of giving the wheels another going over, joint shares in Autosol. Stripe and badges to go on and then a trip to see the MOT man.

Mart, have you rolled the car backwards and forwards a few times? As you lift the car the wheels come inwards and when you drop it back onto the floor tyre grip stops them returning to their normal position. Rolling back and forth a bit allows them to settle properly.

You'll have to get some more pics on here when you've done polishing.

Now I've turned the Sprint round I shall be getting on with finishing the nearside doors. Then it's just boot, bonnet & passenger seat and fixing the rest of the trim on. Plan to get it on the road 1st April (or maybe the 2nd not to push my luck).

I reversed it out of the garage, turned it round & reversed it back in. That's how it stayed.

I've just tried different settings on the Spax but nothing doing. So I took one off to dismantle it & then realised I'd given the spring compressors back to my Bro-in-Law. doh! I've bounced up & down on the wing (using all my 11 stone) but it still settles too high.

Seems that whenever I've done work with the tunnel out and put the shelf back in I always have teething troubles so it has to come out again. If I leave it out 'till I've put a 100 miles or so on everything behaves itself. Kinda sods law thing. I guess its just me.

i bet...

#134 Post by Jon Tilson »

some wassock has put the arb back on without the engine in...

Actually I'm just guessing and trying to sound knowledgeable...

But its an idea...if the anti roll bar were refitted with the engine out it would tend to want to sit too high I think...

Worth a try...loosen and reset now the lumps back in...

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

Yea, with you now. I had left it as long as possible, but I'm sure they'll be teething troubles once it's on the road.

Thanks for that Jonners, seeing as you know I rebuild everything myself.

Yep, anything's worth a try Jonners. All (sensible) suggestions welcome.
