Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Cheers J. Will check at the weekend. I knew about the wing and the end bit. I will just repair the cowling. I doubt I'd be able to make any difference to the wing now tbh. No big deal. Just gotta try with the bonnet cos the fit really is awful

Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Dont you have a spare cowling, i have plenty of them, probably one from the RB's.
Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Yeah, I have a spare. Just wondered if it was worth replacing if the wing is slightly out. Thought it would go again if replaced, hence just repairing the one there already. Haven't had a proper look though. Sure it'll be fine.
Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
So, plan for saturday:
Remove the rear screen and rear vents and finish the sanding to bare metal and rustproof like crazy. Maybe fill the little gaps here and there.
If I can access the garage that is (sign going up tomorrow btw).

Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Ken i have spare wings as well but it would be a lot of work to replace the wing for the sake of a bit of hammering and maybe filler to bring the wing into shape.
Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Nah, won't bother changing the wing, I will have a go at in situ modification to the wing at some point.
Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Virtually removed all of the paint now, just a smidgeon around the boot lip to do. The rear screen is out, as are the 3 vents and all tidied up nicely.
Glad I did take the screen out as there was rust pitting in areas. These have all been cleaned out. Heated rear screen to go in.
It remains remarkably solid so far.
Sorry no piccies, no batteries for the camera. Darned thing eats them!

3 of them. Anyone need one?
Back down to the garage in a mo. Will update accordingly.

Today's progress. Phone piccies, sorry.
All rustkilled and one coat of etch primer applied. Will finish off the boot lid and roof bit later in the week.

Next:
Mask up the window sized gap. Finish off the initial etch priming. Repair the couple of holes. Am not going to fill in the miniscule dints. The car is 43 years old and should wear a couple of battle scars with pride.
Then in the more vulnerable areas, I will paint with red oxide to offer more protection. This will be along the lip of the boot lid and the roof joints (where the stainless trim fits over).
I am hoping then to spray about 3 or 4 coats of filler primer. This will be sanded down and then a light primer applied. Then a light top coat over the main rear end areas. I will leave the area where the bumper blades go as there wil be repairs there.
Am hoping Stoneleigh will provide the metal trim clips for the C pillar and roof trim, plus the plastic lugs to fit the stainless steel trim on the side of the C pillar.
Then turn the car round and start on the front! Am fairly pleased with the progress to date.

Looking good indeed Ken. You're cracking on with this one mate.
I assume you are using a generator for power down at your lock up.

Nah, wired something into the nearest street light
My trusty genny is doing me proud. She has run for many, many hours without much more than a plug change. However, she has started to leak slightly. An ebay buy when I bought LWD.
Just looked at the piccie again, that red interior is really going to stand out against the pearl white top coat.

Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Ken,
The car is going to look fantastic once it is finished. The red and white will look great together. I am enjoying watching your progress. You are putting me to shame. I should really be doing something similar to my Toledo, but I am waiting to show it to the paint shop before I start doing anything to it.

Re: 1967 1300FWD Resto
Hiya Nick. Yeah, am making progress but I wish I had a bit more time and a bit more space.
I am really looking forward to tackling the front end of the car now.
