Did a bit more today:

Finished off the primer on the back end and then sprayed one coat of high build primer/filler.

Whilst that was drying, I spent some time having more of a play with the interior. The interior is truly filthy, in fact it is disgusting. I despair of folk who let cars get like this. My Landie was a farm vehicle and was full of straw and dead spiders but was actually cleaner than this FWD. Beer bottle tops++, everything. There was mould growing on the carpet in places. Cleaned up a bit now though, but I still have a challenge ahead of me. The headlining will eventually need replacing........ but not quite yet.

You can see the difference between clean'ish seat and .......... yuck. That is the actual colour and condition of the seat, NOT a shadow!

Wow, that's some filth you've to deal with in there! Still, as long as there's no damage, that's the main thing Ken.

By the way, am I alone in looking at the colour of the yellow primer and thinking that it would really suit the car as a topcoat? :D

Sorry, I shall now retreat to the back garden and flog myself with a rolled up copy of DM.

I too like the yellow.
The state of the interior was down to how the car was stored before my ownership, and two owners who spent their days working on old cars then driving it probably didnt help much either.

I like the yellow too but is it not a bit bright for the car? Wasn't there a yellow option in the fwd colour scheme? I suppose it could be an option as the car is being resprayed but wouldn't the red interior be way to much of a clash? Maybe a black vinyl roof might tone it down a bit.

What yellow would suffice? I know, lets have a poll!

Maybe a fairly light yellow, such as a rare, BMC shade used on some MK1 minis; Fiesta yellow:

As for its clashing with the red trim, I don't think it's any more jarring than the Olive/Cactus combination on the 1300 owned by Nick1854 from out in the middle of nowhere, and that's not a criticism of that combination, more an appraisal of yellow & red together. :D

It's a no no from me Ken.. Wasn't Noddy's car Red and Yellow? As much as I like Yellow, it will always clash too much with that sensational Matador Red interior. Keep it the best colour combo of all time and keep it White I say.. 8)

Popped down to the garage today and did a small bit of filling on a couple of pinprick type imperfections lurking on the boot lid. Did a bit of sanding, cleaned a bit more of the interior. Nothing major as it's actually cold and windy.

I might book a day off in the week and spend the day working on the FWD. Will try and focus on LD tomorrow. Gotta charge the battery and sort out the rad bolts, refit the air filter housing (with new filters) and do the coolant properly.

Spent a couple of hour down the garage today:

Here's a couple of shots of the seats and dash. They have just had a basic going over to remove the really obvious grunge. Still work to do on them. The crash pad needs a repair, only a small one though. The odd carpet section will need replacement but the majority will clean up ok.

Image

The seats aren't in bad nick, just a bit of wear in the piping and obviously further cleaning is required.

Image

Image

On to the bodywork. This pic shows a small skim of filler on a couple of dints in the panel. Nothing major.

Image

There was a gap in the panel here.

Image

Most of the back end now in grey primer, annoyingly I ran out of primer before I could finish it off. The filler primer had a ghost coat of black sprayed on, then flatted back until the black paint had gone. Hopefully this results in a pretty even finish. Next week will see more primer to finish it off, a light sanding of said primer and then a couple of light coats of Pearl White to the overall panelwork to protect it (bar the bits that need cutting out on the wheelarch). The tail light sections and lower panel on the bootlid will get a proper coating. Then I can refit the lights units.
