So here it is, the reason I joined this club, and why (sadly for you lot) that i spend so much time on the forum. Mid last year, there was a post in "free cars" offering the above vehicle for free as a project. This was spotted by JPB who then told someone else (Stejack) who tried to get me to take the car on. Sadly, i build swimming pools for a living, not restore cars, so thought it better for the car that it's left in the hands of someone who can actually do the work needed to the body to bring the car back to life.

I thought nothing more of it for a while until Stejack offered me the car, bodily complete but mechanically unsorted, for what is in my opinion a song. Henceforth a deal has been struck and in the not too distant future, I will be buying the car and repairing the miscellaneous mechanical maladies as well as indulging in some light "preventative maintenance" to get it mot'd and back on the UKs highways for the first time in approx 8 years.

So, as you can see, it's a rather rough in those pics, but given that the car is 35 years old and has stood outside for 7ish years, I dont think it's done too bad at all.

Thanks for the encouragment so far gents, it's appreciated.

Engine wise, it seems to be a strong enough unit. The first thing that was done was to see if the engine was siezed up. Happily this was not a problem we encountered so Ste moved straight on to rigging up a temporary fuel supply, charging the battery and seeing if it would start. Happily, once it had drawn the fuel through and had a bit of a think, the motor fired straight into life and settled to a nice steady idle. When sorting the mechanicals, I plan on dropping the oil out, putting in some cheap 20w/50 and then running it round for a short period before flushing the oil out and installing a new filter and fresh, high quality oil.

I figure doing that should clear stuff out and give me the best possible chance of a good reliable oil supply to the car. Then it's new flexi-hoses, slave cylinders, brake shoes/pads and then onto sorting the clutch out. Currently, if you push the car whilst it's in gear, but with the engine off, the fan on the front turns, however, start the car up and you can engage which ever gear you wish and there is no drive. I do know the slave cylinder is shot and the clutch hose leaks, so they will be attended to before further investigation takes place. Any handy hints on what i can expect to find will be greatly appreciated.

Then it's a full service with new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, air filters, diff/gearbox oil before MOT time and hopefully a pass to play

Seriously though, Phil, that body doesn't look bad, and given how well Ste painted his FE, I'm sure you'll soon have one of the tidiest TCs left on the planet. Especially if you do it in Dynorod orange with a black roof, slam it and sit it on MGF rims with low profile rubber.

Yeah I'm glad that Ste decided not to carry out his original plan to customise it, frankly I couldn't see the point in doing what he had planned.

More importantly it is nice to know that this car is going to be looked after by Phil, the poor fella seems to have been waiting forever to take delivery of it, looks as though that time is drawing nearer.

I guess it's a bit like awaiting a delivery date back in 1975 from the factory - well worth the wait.

Just shown your car to Hubby and he says he's 'Loving the Patina'!!!!!! Seriously though it looks a solid little motor shouldn't take you too long to get this up and running and..... good to see people not just interested in Sprints!!!

Although we all love sprints its nice to spread a bit of love!!
