Project Lemondrop
Re: Project Lemondrop
Ummm. Alleycats or something like that. I will post a piccie. The whitewalls went on the SE to Justyn. He dislikes them. Am sure he might do a deal if they still exist.

Re: Project Lemondrop
Justyn, Alan has the FWD spares but Steve can get hoses made for any of "our" cars and not just the FWDs.
Sorry for the confusion.

Alleycats?! Gotta see 'em Ken!
I called in on the long-haired hippy chap on the way back from viewing the new Toledo, he kindly found out your old wheels and tyres for me! I'm now gonna pop out to the (blardy freezin'!) garage and give them a good clean etc!

Re: Project Lemondrop
Dragged arse into gear this afternoon, liberated the battery I had in the garage and it is now on charge.
Bolted the radiator and air box hose bracket back into position. New air filters fitted.
Just got to drain the coolant in there and refil.
Is there a knack to it?

Re: Project Lemondrop
Ken, what I usually do Is first unscrew the bolt-like thing on top of the thermostat housing, then release the lower-most radiator hose, squeezing the top hose to aid proper release. Give it a try and let us know how you go.
BTW I saw a mint Dolly 1850 in a level park today, looked absolutely pristine. Such a pitty I'm at uni atm, 600ks from my beloved car

Re: Project Lemondrop
Thanks JPB.
I've been flat out with uni, and working on the car. Problems being that I need more parts. I found a nice girl finally so I've been busy on that front too.
It's actually our 1 month anniversary today (27/3/10) Yay!!!
Anyways Ken, how did you go?

Oh to be young again!!!

Re: Project Lemondrop
But wouldn't you agree that a Dolomite makes you feel young? I feel like I'm half my age in that thing. Oh by the way, I turned 22 not long ago..... lol I'm so hopeless.Stan Part wrote:DOLLY76 wrote: I found a nice girl finally so I've been busy on that front too.

OH YES!
Was out in mine having a blast this morning, 8 track blasting, exhaust note was the perfect accompaniment (though I did manage to somehow get caught up in a convoy of MGs

The perfect way to unwind

Re: Project Lemondrop
Really must crack on with LD. I have the front ARB to fit, the lowered springs at the front to fit, new rear shocks to throw on. Arrghhhh
And a FWD to restore
And a FWD to restore

Re: Project Lemondrop
Finally got my arse in gear. I drained the rest of the temporary coolant, added a 50/50 mix of proper and recommended blue coolant and water, hooked up the freshly charged battery and ............................ she started 2nd turn of the key. After a short while on choke she idled pretty nicely. All the coolant pipes nice and hot, temp gauge bang in the middle. Sorted. Well almost. There is a trickle of coolant from the rad to expansion bottle. I replaced the hose but I may have a slightly too big replacement. I shall order a proper one on monday. Methinks a trip to Triplec's place is beckoning to have the timing checked and the carbs balanced (and the front ARB fitted
)

Re: Project Lemondrop
Spent the whole day round my mates place. His dad died a few weeks back and he's just getting vaguely back intothe swing of things. He let me use his 4 post lift and I had a good chat with him and kept him company whilst he did some stuff on his steam engines.
I took off the old shocks, they were totally goosed, one was leaking. The back end of LD bounced around something terrible. Whilst the shocks were off, I undid most of the back end and scraped and cleaned the underneath of the car. Most of it was taken down to bare metal, rustkilled and painted. When it was dry I covered it in a couple of cans of black waxoyl. Looks smart and all protected.
New uprated rear shocks and springs fitted. Job done. What an improvement!!!
I didn't get the chance to do the fronts but I shall try at the weekend. It will be an LD weekend methinks. Am totally knackered now and my stupid foot is seriously killing me.

Re: Project Lemondrop
Ken, did you check the bushes when you were poking around LD's rear? (oo-er!) I know that Brown's rear suspension bushes were fine when I did the springs & shockers.

Yeah, sure did. They all looked ok to me.
No corrosion other than a light smattering of surface stuff.
The temp guage didn't budge from the 1/2 way mark either, I tweaked the hose and retightened it.... job done.
