That will be closed this weekend. It is there towards the back of the sill but was rotten and has been cut away towards the front. Thankfully the rest of the sill looks solid which is a lot better than the other side was.

That's what was confusing me; it looked almost as though there'd never been any more to it than what appears there, though I'll bet that the car will feel a lot stiffer with the job done.

Hi Paul,
It was very pleasant to meet both you and your car at Stoneleigh and I hope you restore the car to full strength.

The extent of the inner wing rust on your 1300, particularly on the nearside, is worrying but I mentioned that you can buy repair panels, which would be the better, stronger and cosmetically more satisfying alternative, rather than trying to fabricate numerous repair sections yourself.

As I mentioned, expect to find the rust to be more extensive, beneath the wing though.

I hope this helps,

More playing today and no Gladys is not being negleted she is just behaving at the moment.

All the work done on weekend has been filled sanded filled again sanded again and is now in primer ready to be sanded down and filled again cause its still not quite perfect ;D.

Went to tackle getting the rest of the carpet out today but was scuppered by seized runner on the front seats. All the carpet I have taken out has relieved some nice sound floor.

I also decided to tackle the electrics today and found 1/2 mile of loose and unnecsary cabling. The decidely ropy looking demister has been removed. The miles of radio cabling running under the carpet has been removed. The cigarette lighter, oil pressure gauge and clock are now secure and there wiring neatly wrapped into looms.

I am truly shocked by the state of wiring in this car it was just a big fire waiting to happen. Come on miles of loose cables with bare wires showing, and none of it secured in anyway. Even my 2 year old godson would know you dont do that!

Mate,

I would hate to see your hard work destroyed or damaged by a small slip up. Good luck getting it finished off :)

This car is now officially of the road. As ive missed the MOT deadline it can stay off the road and get done properly. I now only have wings to do.

Also got to do some mechanical work. The head is leaking again so is coming off. The speedo cable and drivers floorpan are being replaced and it is getting a new outer wing on the drivers side.
I have sourced an alternator conversion kit of the uni cost £2.50 so that will be fitted and the car will be getting xenon headlamp conversion and a new fuel sender at some point.

Carpet is fitted and a battery tray has been fabricated (purists I know it shouldn't have one but the clamps where missing so it was easier to make a tray.)
Reversing light has been wired to reverse gear and and foglights again found on old stock one that the uni was clearing out.

Now are there any jobs other than replacing the gasket that I should be doing whilst the heads off.

I'd lap the valves in and such and just give the whole thing a good clean up.

Edited to correct a term.. D'oh!
