ah yes iv been looking forward to the corbridge one, i went to the one last year and there was a really good turnout. feel free to edit it once you get the information on Wallsend!

Theres also a one on the second wednesday of every month at the metrocentre toys r us car park. Its more of a meet than a show but there always seems to be a good turnout.

I've been to a few of the Wednesday evening meets at the Metro Centre but last I heard, the church commissioners, who own the land, were receiving complaints from MacDonalds and the other tenants of the site about the "hooligan element" turning up in cars and having a good time.
Most odd that Maccie D's should complain when most of the folk who turn up would spend a fair bit of cash over their tills, and given that we're mostly grown ups with interesting rides, who aren't given to doing burnouts in the car parks there. Can't see the problem myself. :scratchin:

But as long as it's still happening then I should be making it at least a couple of times before everyone goes indoors (Bowes Incline pub) for the Winter meets.

Still haven't found the link I saw recently about the Wallsend thing, but unless I dreamt the whole thing it's on the 4th of July, the day after Wallsend Festival week ends. Hmm, face painting and candy floss, anyone?

Well.... thats what i thought seeing as last time i was there in 2009 they had security and police there handing out flyers telling people not to come anymore. But out of curiosity i went last month to see if it was still happening...which it was! there was a pretty good turnout too :)

il keep my eyes and ears open for the Wallsend event though!

Well its been a while due to welder/gas problems but heres whats been happening so far to date..

All of the welding done on the underside finished. For the moment all bare metal has been zinc primed just temporarily until i get round to stripping the whole underside, This will also be seam sealed.. once i buy some :)
Image

Image

both ends need welding up now so im currently fabricating some parches to get welded in

Image

Image

bit of a before and after here...
When getting the sill welded i noticed this slight hole inside along the side of the footwell, the idea was to clean it up and get some new metal in.
Image

but... after a bit of prodding with a screwdriver i found a little bit more than i was expecting in the way of holes but thankfully it could be a lote worse!

heres the same area with all the rot cut out..
Image

aside the the drivers sill iv started to strip out the interior and have it stored in my lockup, basically just to keep i from getting damaged/filthy and also to smarten up the floorpan and do any repairs that are required

That's great work you are doing there. It is amazing how much rust there was on a car that appeared to be very solid. I certainly won't be poking a screw driver around my Toledo, just in case!!

cheers! i was surprised too but thankfully the rust seems to have kept away from the most important parts such as the chassis etc, which makes my job somewhat easier!

Finally the front end is pretty much sealed up, these two photos show the inside and the side of the drivers wing where all of the welding has been finished. All of the welds inside have been seam sealed over, just as a belt and braces approach really as this while inner section is going to be 'de-rusted' and cleaned up and most probably get waxoiled or similar

Image

Image

The inner wing plate has been stripped and repainted (gave it a couple of coats of primer, then stone chipped them hammerited) as well has receiving some brand new rubber. This wont go back on until the car is ready to be put back together properley.

Image

next job is to close up the back end of the sill and then most probably strip off the old underseal inside the wheelarches

Wallsend went well, managed to get over to Corbridge afterwards as well.

Here's the page from the NECPWA forum that I knew I'd seen somewhere. Too many clubs, not enough time, etc.....

Sunday 4th July 2010 sees the first Nostalgia Customs Car Show Dubbed the Roman Run as it's being held at the Centuriion park,(Wallsend Golf Club) Wallsend. The show should be a cracking event with a variety of vehicles on display, Including Hot Rods,Customs, Classics and Motor Cycles. If it's old Pre 1982 (NO HOT HATCHES) or in the spirit of street rodding, We want to see it.
We'll also be raising funds for various charities, so please show your support.
Prices are-£1.00 per vehicle on the Sunday show day, or £10.00 per caravan, tent. camper van ect for the entire weekend, Making it excellent value. On Saturday morning there's a cruise to Wallsend's famous summer carnival with dedicated parking or take a cruise along the beutifull North East Coast, But make sure your back at the show venue for the big party!
There's an on site bar selling food all day including breakfast from 7.00am.
Oh and if you'r a golfer, bring your clubs, as there's an 18 hole golf couse and driving range on site too.
check it out at ww.centurionparkwallsend.co.uk
E-mail us at nostalgia.customs@yahoo.co.uk and we'll reply with an entry form.

So, assuming Moat's been caught and the County's roads are opened again by then, Otterburn next Sunday.

Sill is almost finished now, tis is what i currently looks like after quite a few hours or sanding and applying filler and sanding and applying filler... you get the idea!

The back end is still to weld up and for the time being im going to spray the sill and bottom of the wing a navy blue with rattle cans just to keep any moisture out due to primer being porus, this will of course be teporary as im saving up for a respray in itsoriginal sapphire blue.

After this is all done im taking a break from the body and its on to the gearbox, It occasionally wont go into second gear (i say occasionally, its more like most of the time). When it does go into second it runs fine so im not sure exactly where the problem lies.

Thankfully now the gearbox is running without a hitch. I managed to get hold of a spare gearbox just incase it came to the worst and had to swap the old one. working from the inside of the car i took out the bottom of the dash and the transmission cover.
The selector box and top extension came out and upon dismantling this, th problem was (thankfully) quite and easy one to spot! The main selector rod that bolts to the bottom of the gear lever had been removed at some point and no bush had been fitted when putting back together, so there was an awful lot of play.. i bought a rebush kit and renewed all that needed to be renewed. I also used the selector box from the donor box as it was in better condition.

Next job was the prop, the rubber in the centre carrier was totally gone so having taken the shaft out, i had a read up on what Mr Haynes said i should do.
Anway this sounded simple enough, take out the split pin, take off the nut and the end comes off.
It had never been taken off in a long long time as it was seized, after a long long time of applying oil and heat it came off, but infortunately upon taking it out it turns out the threads were damaged and the nut wouldnt go back on, i tried taking it to an engineering shop but they said it was too far gone.

£90 later i received a new whole front section from rimmers which is spot on. This is not back on the car and another job ticked off the list!

Old prop next to the nice new one..

Image

Back section ready to go back on the car too..
Image

I mentioned earlier when i was working on the gearbox i took off the transmission cover, i decided that since i was off id strip it and repaint it as it saves doing it later down the line..

Here it is stripped down
Image

And here it is drying,
Image

I painted the top with Ford Ontario Blue which is almost identical to Triumph Sapphire blue. I could have painted it any colour really seeing as this is under the carpet and is never seen.

Underneath I Zinc primed, used 2 coats of stone chip and used hammerite spray to go over the top, It will be waxoiled as well once its back on the car.
