I tried to get that repaired as it was never at zero but it made it worse, so i ended up selling it on ebay as needing to be repaired/calibrated. it was a bit big though eh?

Excellent idea with painting the wheels black - I think it accentuates the rest of the car perfectly

Realised the black rims remind me of my other matt black car I had:


You fitting a stereo etc? Oh and did you line up the door mirrors? Realised looking through old photos that one was slightly nearer the wing than the other one.

Are the bumpers new or just well polsihed as they were quite pitted when I had it. If you managed to clean them up then please say what you used as have an MGB and a P6 Rover in similar need!

As for the wingmirrors Monty i thought that the position they were in was meant to be like that on some of them, it certainly works position wise for me when i'm driving anyway. When i was in the garage i had so many things to do in little time that i had my hands full just making the car presentable in general .

I use to have to look over my shoulder all the time in case they saw me doing something too good jobwise, for example the under side of the bonnet, it has pitting all over it and evidence of rust coming underneath the paint etc, i cleaned most of the paint off it where I knew was an issue and they said i was doing too much it should be just painted over, that they had never seen that being done before. I had to do this on most of the car discreetly as it had alot of rust. The garage claim to do classic car restos but they have never heard of or been involved in bare metal reprays/powder coating,leadloading etc. So thats just a warning to some to do a check where possible of garages when giving them your pride and joy, as i'm sure everyone on here already knows. I'm no expert, but everything on this car i did, under time/money pressures,and its the first bigish project i've done, So, i'm happy enough with the car.
The mirrors seem fine for driving, doesn't cause an issue at all.

The bumpers are still pitted unfortunately , i would have loved to get them re-chromed or new ones but money is an issue. I have done it all on a little budget so some things i could not do. Its a shame as they are a big part of the chrome that looks good up next to the black. I did polish them with car paint cutting compound as i find its great for chrome, but pitting can be only taken away by stripping,sanding and re-plating as far as i know. You can get mirror like paint type chrome stuff these days but in my opinion its never the same as plating.
I have done the wiring for a stereo, put the speakers in the rear shelf, ran the spk wires under the carpets before i fitted them, a mate gave me a stereo holder out of a landrover i think, so when i'm ready it should go straight in

Lewis, the gauge was just ahead of zero when engine off and obviously not correct reading when engine running etc, I sold it on ebay first as it was, buyer returned it as faulty, received it back with a nice big dent in the metal gauge surround as a thankyou, then i relisted it again on ebay as faulty/dented, and got more money for it then the first buyer. Things work out like that sometimes eh..

Sorting bits and bobs now for A new M.O.T, bought new blue silicon tubing for the windscreen washers, unnecessary I know but only a bit more in price and looks nice...

The car is looking really, really smart. The black wheel centres suit it perfectly. You have done a cracking job given the constraints. Well done!

I seem to remember an old trick of scrunching some tinfoil up (shiney side out) and rubbing that onto the pitted chrome. Never used it myself but you never know. Would love to see the car in the flesh.

I've tried that, it works far better then I thought it would, although I suspect it doesn't last... Presumably some of the foil rubs off on the pits in the chrome?

Seeing the colour it makes me think that Triumph really missed a trick not marketing the Sprint in black, they would have sold a good number more I reckon.

what a cracking car this has turned out to be. looking back on the blood sweat and tears and not inconsiderable skill, it is a credit to you and I'm shaking my head in appreciation. It makes me look rather stupid sitting in front of the computer, but I'm nodding away

Black is good. Suits the car beautifully.

Had her running again today, had a quick sneeky drive up and down my street to test brakes,drive etc. Going to bleed the brakes again(hope the servos not at fault), rev counter not working, speedo dead too, needs a bit of idle tuning amongst other small bits and bobs.

Got some stickers from rimmers before i started the resto, when i've finished all the main/needed stuff il stick then on. So if anyone wants to kindly let me know where they go with a pic or two maybe it would be appreciated.

Ive got a spare set of white sunvisors if anyone wants them free, also want to sell the original sprint alloys with tyres if anyone is interested?
