CZY677 1977 1500HL/Sprint

#1 Post by TomSprint »

Hi all,

I've not posted much for the past while, I told myself I'd only post when I something resembling a car to show.
Well, it's a few years on it's still not done but a recent burst of activity means I may be getting somewhere.
I've had CZY677 for about 18 years. It was the best Dolly shell I'd had so I kept it. It has had 1500, 1300 and Sprint mechanicals in it's time. I'm hoping to get it painted during the next month or two and back up and running (as Sprint) before too long.

Anyway, here's what it looks like at the mo.

Looks like a nice solid car. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of it painted.

Yum...Flamenco or Pimneto?...
I'm guessing at Flamenco....on the year. I've got a Flamenco one too...and so has Dave Poth.

Thanks

It's Flamenco, paint has arrived, so hoping to get on with the prep this weekend as I'm off work.

It looks as if someone has walked across the roof at some stage and it's taking ages to get it back to a reasonable shape. Other than that it should be fairly straightforward.

I had to repair the vent panel over the rear window and the leading edge of one rear wheelarch but that was it for rust repair.

Well its been a while but I can now see the tunnel if not the light at the end of it!

My compressor runs out of steam too quickly to cover everything in one go

Don't think the urban camoflague look will catch on!!

Back section rubbed and ready for paint

Rear section and roof with bootlid fitted.

Couldn't resist compounding a bit to break the colour sanding drudgery!

Refitted the engine and gearbox and it's up and running
Just the bonnet left to paint and a few small bits to be "fixed"
More pics soon

Tom thats a great looking car, nice work, good to see another flamenco one too. Are the wheels compomotives? They do look good.

Thanks for the comments,

the wheels are Compomotive MO, they were on another sprint that I got a few years back.
They're 7x15's and rub everywhere! Might be better with a 185/55 as opposed to the 195/50 tyre fitted at the mo but I think they'd be a tight fit too. Ideally I'd love a set of 6x14 5 spoke revolutions, other than that it'll most likely be sprint alloys with a 60 profile tyre.....

Cheers

Hi Gary,

I'm just outside Dundalk, on the Louth/Monaghan border.

No real progress likely this week, DIY commitments!!

Good stuff. I'm in Lusk in North County Dublin, not a million miles away. The Dolly movement here is growing!

Hi there - I went searching for the reg CZY677 on the internet as it was my Dads car when I was growing up and the car I learned to drive in. I was delighted when I found the above and see that you are/were restoring it. When it was ours it was a 1300 and did not have the curved dash - I think thats from the 1500 version?? , its original colour was flamingo red though, I remember this as we had to buy the paint to fix the front drivers wing after I crashed it  ........It would be great to connect with you as I can give you some of the history around the car and if possible I would really like to see the finished product.

Thanks ...David
