Im not a fan of the silent ratchets as if you can not see the bolt head due to limited space you cant hear if it is undoing the bolt/ nut etc.

True, they don't have much of a soundtrack, but the advantage is that they don't require so large a swing as a conventional ratchet spanner with its spring and its pawl and all of those bulky bits around the ring end and besides, you can feel whether the spanner's doing any work or not, and unless the check mechanism's broken, it would be. 
But like I said, these Halfords cheapies are very impressive in their own right, and far easier to look after than the silent check ones which had to be loaded with a miniscule quantity of oil through a tiny hole in their rings, not simply soaked in oil every so often then left to drip the bulk of it off as you can do with the special offer ones, which still get a 10/10 from me, but the ratchet-free ones get an 11.
