oooh i'll look forward to some piccies soon then! , i know what it's like i did the same on mine as it just seemed better to use all the original bits.....although after hours of cleaning rusty nuts and jubilee clips etc you do wonder if it's worth it!!

No way!.. for the moment, I can't imagine selling AUbreY.. It's my first Sprint, so I have a lot of affection for that car..even though it blew a piston ring on me last year..but all is forgiven now. Had it around six years now..where has the time gone? Just gotta fix the waterpump, then I can go for an mot..

Spur of the moment purchase. Currently stripped (and I mean completely) and engine out ready for some tidying before a respray. A few bits of welding needed and a rear oil seal to halt the slick it was leaving behind every time I parked it.

I put a new payen oil seal in last time the box was out. It can only have done 1k miles. There must be a seriously duff batch about.

So much for you just driving it about for a while..... I konda wondered if you really would do that given your track record.

Still its a very worthwhile basis....and the good bits are very good....well I thought so anyway.

OK Reg, here you are, not pretty, but work in progress. All the bulkhead rot eradicated today along with some new metal in the chassis under the battery. New vinyl roof waiting in the corner but the rear vent panel needs doing first. Hopefully David is sorting me one out. Then some new metal required on the leading sill edges behind the wing so need to cut the wing bottoms off, then apart from tidying a previous rear sill patch, that should be it, then I can respray it and get it back on the road. Seems a shame to waste that tax.

Jon, sorry I meant the engine rear oil seal, not the 'box. You can see the deposits it had left just while it has been sat on the dolly tilted forward. After a run with nice warn oil, the drip rate is quite impressive.

That is so annoying. That car is on its 3rd crank oil seal in a year. I wonder if there is something else going on?

I could buy the original weepng after 75 k miles, so with the engine out to sort the broken cross shaft it seemed daft not to renew it. When the second "NOS" cross shaft failed a month later with a split weld it was obvious that the new "seal" was in fact mis named, so in went a new payen one, which had a nice tight spring and went on with no issues. It appeared to be working okay as I hadnt noticed any oil under the car....so why would it fail again?

Could the oil pump relief valve be stuck shut causing too much oil pressure? Worth a look...but I'm really struggling to see why this should happen. The rear crank oil seal isn't usually an issue on these engines.

Excellent work on the body though Derek. Your skills in that department far exceed mine so in that respect the car is now in much better hands.

Ok, an update...finally!

Out of the garage for the first time since January..







It's far from perfect and has plenty of patina and flaws and the pictures are quite complimentary, but the main thing is that it's back on the road as of next Spring.

Sorry about the quality of pics, the light was disappearing fast!

Still loads of work to be done over the Winter..
