Hi guys. thanks for all this usfull info http://www.midlandwheels.com/Shop/P-279 ... 95.25.html there the wheels i got and well you know what tyres i have. i am worried that the offset might be wrong... it does say on the site that no body mods are required to run these, but they might be wrong... when i had the springs mounted i could push down on the boot and the outer gaurd (where the little lip sticks in toward the tyres) would slam down on the tyres. if that lip wern't there i would have no probs.... (hence my rolling it up of off with it.) and as for fitting i will have to get shocks and springs ready made up as 1 tool which i miss are spring compressors Thanks JBP for the offer. i will have a look round first and let you guys know whats going to happen hahaa using all the info you guys have given me i will try and mix something also i will try and some photos up .... camera out of batteries...

You can find spring compressors for a few quid (think I saw some for £10) on e-bay usually, although for some reason I think you need a thin one as on our cars the springs are quite tight between coils (I think so anyway, I've not taken a set of standard springs off yet, just my spax)
As for your wheel problems...
Sprint wheels are ET35 iirc and yours are ET16?
So if anything they should give you more clearence with the outer arch, as it moves the wheel centre further inboard. If they'd catch anywhere, they should catch on the inside of the wheel, but they shouldn't. Weird.

Forgot to mention before, out of Gaz and Spax, Gaz seem to be more reliable, I've seen pictures of Spax disintegrated after a year or so (I fitted Spax primarily due to them costing me a whole £20, with springs, win). Though I'd fit Avos. Can't remember for the life of me where they're for sale mind.

I just order 450 quid worth of parts of rimmers i did try quillers and Mike Dolphin but they didn't have what i needed any way i will try my darn hardest to get photos on of my not soo good progress hahaa tonight. i have encountered alot of seized bolts and things but nothing a good drill can't sort and i walked out of my garage last night after working on the old girl and found it was snowing then woke up this morning to 5 cms of snow so can't wait to get her finished and back on the snowy roads

Drill for seized bolts?
Just how seized are they? Penetrating fluid (Fnar fnar) is your friend.

Yea drill down the middle and then get a bolt remover and get it out.. but i broke the bolt remover aswell so now i think i will just leave it for now. it's just the little screws that hold the brake drum on .... not too important as once the wheels are on there is no way it can come off. but i can't beleive how hard they are to get off... and i have never had a bolt remover break like that ...

MMMM still waiting on my parts,,, poor little girl is in the garage just itching to get out in that snow mmm when i get home from work the temp out side is like -7 already lol i have to work on her with like coat gloves and heaters hahahaha (as my garage is as old as the house ...very old...lol) i will try my very best to get some photos up this weekend i keen on a video too you never know we will see. Anyway i hope everyone in England is enjoying the snow too looks like it could be that white Christmas... ( Oh your not gona believe this... my mum has made my dolly a stocking ) hope it gets filled with rear suspension front suspension and a whole set of bushes hahahahaha

Look further into what oli says about the offset of the wheels, the Midland Wheels comment that no modifications are required almost certainly refers to fitting them on spits & heralds etc. Our cars tend to get forgotten.

Hay yeah i did ring them up before i bought them just to make sure and told what car year and stuff, and the guy said they should be fine but no bigger than 165x70 x13 for tyres.... anyway i will see what she lookslike with the new suspension.

I think the issue is that a lot of people don't realise our cars are a different offset to the Spits and Heralds. Trying to remember who it was that found that out fitting Spit wheels to a Dolly.
That said, a company selling wheels should know really.

Though having gone over it again, I worked out the offset wrong originally , if it'll rub, it will be on the outside, not the inside like I first thought. Must have had a brain fart that day, though I have been looking into it more myself for some other wheels I adore (not enough to pay the $430 per rim though, ouch), so I've semi cracked it now.
It's 19mm further away from the brake drum than a Sprint wheel will be. So yes, I can see why you're having problems, even on a 5.5j rim.
At this stage, a refund is highly unlikely (besides, they look awesome), but I'd still be inclined to phone the company, have a whinge and try and get a hefty sum back. Then on the car itself, remove the crud catching lip and hope they fit better!
At the end of the day, Midland wheels cocked up, lets see how good a company they really are...

I understand what you mean about drilling bolts now! Good luck getting the snapped extractor out... That's going to be tricky.
I've heard about a fair few of them going ping, trying to avoid using my set, very much so a last resort I feel.

Minus eleven here at the moment, was higher than that through the night.

I'd tend not to start bashing the arches about if they're undamaged, would the correct size of tyre make the necessary difference? IE; 155/80 in place of the smaller circumference but wider 165/70 would miss the edges and give you a correct speedo reading.
Perfectly safe to fit 155s on a 5.5J rim and they'd be nice and stiff.

I tried to start her up last night cus she has been sitting a while........ no luck... i thought it might because there was no fuel getting to the engine but i do have an electric pump to fill the carbs. and also a mouth full of fuel proved that there was fuel getting there.. battery it winding down on me too... any way once the suspension is in she will run perfect I hope....

mmmm realy wierd.. She won't start mmm fuel is getting there and spark but not even a splutter when i turn her over... checked plugs and they seem fine.. not flooded either mmm she ran fine when i put her in the garage. i must admit 3 weeks ago but just can't see why it won't even splutter... any ideas??
