uprated head

#1 Post by amosssprinter »

I have an uprated cylinder head i got a couple of years ago i want to use in my leyland st replica i am building ,it has dropped a valve and another one is bent.I need to identify the origin of the head to get new valves.I have looked at the valves and they are different from standard valves as the collets fit a bit lower on shaft and the diameter of shaft is slightly smaller,it also has alloy cups on top of springs.we think it might be a sprintspares head, the guy i got it off paid £400 new for head,on the end of the cam is stamped 16vt 145 and punched on head various times is so3 6qn,no on end of exhaust valve is 10135 mi.any advise or info on this would be greatfully recieved

Sounds like you have a cam reprofiled from a standard cam therefore machined down on the base circle to get the lift. Longer valves are then installed to take up the gap caused by reducing the base circle of the cam.

Regards.

I know that Burtons Ford tuning guide gives all dimensions for their valves so might be able to match some up, then you can have some good old Ford reliability

Hi, If you do rebuild the head, throw the alloy caps away. I have had an instance of the valves pulling through alloy caps. I have never had any problems with standard caps.

Did you buy that head of a bloke called Derek near Guildford? He acquired the spares package that originally went with my nitrous Sprint before I bought the car and that sounds very much like the head that the PO had to take off shortly before I bought it! Strangely on the journey home it dropped another valve

Tell him at B.K.T that you have my brakes fitted and he will tell you they are death traps and beware (thats why he wanted to sell them himself)
Please mention my name and you will get a poke in the eye from him
