#1 Post by buster »

hi well as most of you no i have had to sell my 1500hl project due to a change in my personal circumstances and i have succesfully sold it to a very nice guy from this forum graham. but i have now decided that i cant be without a dolly in my life so i have just purchased the 1500 0/d on here from mike (80sprint) and hoping to pick her up in the week and use her as a running restoration and not have her laid up in the garage for months. i will post pics as they come and keep you all up to date on her progress 1st job will to cure the jumping out of 1st gear and then the rumbling back axle which im hoping could just be rear wheel bearings otherwise il be searching for a rear axle. And then a mot so hoping to get her to bromley pagent in june .UPDATE. project 1500 o/d is home had a spare sunday today so decided to ring mike to see if i could pick up her today left sunny margate around 12 midday got to staines around 130pm on inspection she seems quite sound apart from a little welding on rear lower quarters interior is very clean and the 1500 engine is very sweet indeed the drive home went very well but halfway home i went deaf due to the noisy wheel bearing so hoping to pick up a pair in the week if anyone has any .many thanks to mike (8osprint) for the very good descpition and pics of the car oh and the cans of paint cheers mike have to say im very pleased with the car and the way she drove home stay tuned for updates and pics . :bluewave:

SUCSSESS it seems after several hours with a hub puller and not being succcesfull i have fixed the problem of a very noisy back axle . 1 rear bearing relaced and noise gone :D must admit im pleased that i dont have to replace the diff. but now the noisy diff is fixed i can hear the noisy 1st gear :snivel: so the hunt begins for a o/d box just waiting for a oil seal for the diff and the rear end is taken care of forgot to mention the only way i could remove the rear hub was to remove hub and shaft together and take it to my local garage where a very nice man pressed it off for me .

No unfortunatley not as they are very special bearings :) but the wheel bearings are normally standard sizes :)

Great news Simon on solving the noise issue. I must say that was the noisiest bearing i have ever heard then.. Shame about the 1st gear noise but as it was jumping out of gear anyway you are probably no worse off.

quite an eventful day today rear end is now finished new diff seal fitted replaced rear exhaust rubber rear brakes ajusted brakes bled and all cleaned off where rear seal was leaking just needs small amount of welding drove car today and what a improvement (no noise) have started to remove part of interior so i can make a start removing the gearbox & clutch . will upload pics soon .UPDATE.another eventful day as things are quiet on the work front at the moment im taking advantage of it made a start today on removing the o/d box which is alredy to come out lots of oil around bellhousing area which i think is rear crankshaft oil seal which i think is contributing to the clutch judder when i pull away in 1st.so tommorow i will lift the box out and inspect the clutch but seeing the oil i can safely say its gona need replacing and a new rear oil seal. if im brave enough i may inspect the box to find out why its noisy in 1st and why now and again it jumps out of 1st..

well. another weekend spent on the car gearbox now removed to reveal a very leaky front seal on the box my 1st thought of a leaking rear crankshaft seal were wrong and it turns out front seal on box was leaking and also the pin which holds in the clutch fork was missing may explain the clutch judder.due to problems with the box it has since been sold on ebay to fund another box .also just fitted new sump gasket and about to change front oil seal and fit new heat shield.
