Re: Annoying Rattle / Knocking
I must say that it would be more help to show the mounts, as these are the most likely culprits and it is begining to sound like Rimmers have used the same mount on both sides as opposed to the offside being thicker and just a rectangular lump.
On the mounting brackets there are little notches and these should be on the bottom, plus the angle bracket is offside and the parallel one nearside.

Err! sorry Jon, the notches should be on the top, towards the front of the car. You then can't get them mixed up.

Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years.
... Still Sprintless.

Okay JPB and you are talking orthogonally cos John has an early 1850 and you have a sprint.
The mountings are about as different as its possible to be...
You have put the Sprint mounts in wrong. Also the engine steady bar is a red herring. You only put this on when its sitting right. Listen to Mart or TJ
who have had engines in and out of Sprints more times than most of us have had hot dinners. The cutouts are important. I got mine wrong once and the engine sits too high and fouls the bonnet in this case.
It sounds as if you have found the other bad combination....cutouts right but brackets to engine or subframe on the wrong sides....
Its in the factory manual how it should go and it will then work....unless of course Rimmers have sold you duff mounts.
Jonners

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

Jon, if the cutouts are right the brackets must be on the correct sides.

Aye, as Jonners suspected, I hadn't realised that this was a Sprint.
Looking at the way the engine mounts sit on the Sprint though, why on earth do they not use restrictor brackets on there also? That o/s one looks as though there's very little to prevent its letting go.
Anyway, glad it's all sorted and yet again I've learnt some new stuff.

Gang@TDC
All sorted now - "No" annoying knocking now, must be between 3/4" - 1" clearance now between the oil pump and rack mounts - thx for all your assistance.
Old girls out this afternoon, first run since I bought her.
Regards
Paul

Oh well I have to be wrong sometimes

My car has no steady bar as I use a Cosworth Granada offside mount and a standard nearside with some packing.
Pleased to hear the car is running well now
