So when you next change the downpipe I'd also replace that rear core plug.
I've had 2 spit ones fail (same engine but u can use the TT 4-2-1 on a spit) in the last 5 years...(same plug as the rusty looking one in your pics)

I got home once with a self tapper through the hole....and the second time I was lucky as I noticed it on the driveway.

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

At the bottom of the downpipe where you have fited the clamp should there not be a steady bar from the gearbox mount to the clamp?

Thread resurrection time. I took advantage of Rimmers VAT equivalent offer to get a replacement downpipe. comparing it to the POS one that doesn't fit the two are clearly different:

That's not conclusive that it will fit but if they were the same it would be conclusive that it wouldn't fit. IYSWIM :rolleyes2:
I didn't get the angle quite right for the side on photo, looks promising though.

Shame the new ones don't have properly siamesed pipes like an original. Next time I've got a couple of days spare this project can move forward.

Will a 1500 notice the difference between siamesed and trousered in terms of flow - assuming no other breathing mods? As long as it fits, then at least you're ahead of the game now.

I was thinking more about the space taken up by the joint, it's quite a bit more bulky.
